why is your cat green?
She’s built different 😌
Look i tried to laugh it off, but I haven’t stopped thinking about this message because… my cat literally isn’t green
like where is the green
Oh Christ
This is the color your cat is
colors i eyedropped directly from op's cat
I drew a tree using only colours eyedropped from OP's cat.
every time i see this post all i see is some green alien kitty with antennae so i had to draw it
I originally thought those were supposed to be mushrooms, implying that this cat is moldy
Moldy forest cat
i'm happy y'all made fan art of my cat. i tried to show her and she just rubbed her face on my phone
Those tone bubbles in the third image all look like military camouflage colors.
Spec. Ops. Kitty... 😏
He'll sneak in to enemy base better than any solder

of all the unintentionally terrifying things in the hp universe i personally find the portraits the worst. not necessarily the concept of them, although having a panopticon inside the castle walls is a bit creepy in itself, but just the idea of *being* a portrait
like i saw a fic the other day where snape woke up as a portrait after dying and whilst it was very sweet that he got to have a closure conversation with harry, i couldn't help but think of the feeling of being trapped in one place - usually one room, if you even get a room in your background and not a plain bg - for a possible eternity, on full display, with next to no choice about who your neighbours are hanging beside you, who comes to stand in front of you, who enters your portrait, who wakes you up and when, nowhere to hide, unable to do anything or have any significant power over the real world, and yet (by all appearances) being fully sentient, needing to sleep, wanting to party and go places, wanting to defend your home and who enters it, as if you were still alive
i know you can visit other portraits and other locations, but the other problems seem to me not to have changed even if you do. it just felt really claustrophobic and terrifying to me
sorry to poach your comment for a rb @said-snape-softly but this just made me think of a world where george gets a portrait of fred made to help ease the loss but obviously it would either need to be pocket-sized (for convenience) or he'd have several portraits so he could move frames all the time and for a while george thinks it helps because it's like having fred there still but obviously fred can't take part in any family meals or help out in the shop (i mean, maybe as a customer support rep on the wall?) and he can't help with the creation of new things because he can't use magic irl and he can't really do pranks so george is just there with a shadow of a twin he feels compelled to carry with him but eventually he starts to get over the loss and it's somehow worse keeping a shadow of his twin around him 24/7 because it's just not the same and there's nothing fred can do about it. slowly the world is just moving on without him and george/the other siblings are getting married and having kids and getting new jobs and fred('s portrait) starts to get annoyed that he's not carted out to family events as much any more and if he is people are less likely to involve him because at that point it's worse to keep reopening old wounds. and then everyone fred ever knew is growing old and dying, and portrait fred is just there, watching everyone he ever loved move on but perpetually trapped, alone at the age he was when he died
Oh nooo @severus-snaps you’ve unlocked a new level of horror for me bc now I’m thinking about how awful it would be if the opposite occurred, too—if Fred didn’t just slowly fade from George’s life but George became too attached to the portrait, mirror of erised style.
There’s a particular horror in your twin, of all people, struggling with projecting things onto a portrait based on your likeness. Speaking as a twin myself, it’s not uncommon that even your loved ones may assume or expect you to fill a certain role based on your likeness to your twin…. it sucks, but you can always take solace in the fact that your sibling *gets it*. So having the one person who is supposed to get it do that exact thing to your portrait? 😩
I think I read somewhere that Rowling (hiss. HISS) said that magical portraits are made with the subject before their death, and that there's some kind of process by which they explain or pass on their personalities to the portrait. So there's some kind of consent involved, at least, and you can't just paint someone who died and have their portrait be an imprint of them. What's interesting about portraits is that they're similar to what the resurrection stone does, except without pulling the person back from the dead - the person is there, thinking and speaking, but can't interact physically with the world.
at least now we know why he has yet to return when Britain is in peril
We need a flick where King Arthur wakes in modern Jamaica and is very confused.
I think that would be so much funny. He wakes up on a remote beach in Jamaica and he only speaks/understands Brythonic and Medieval Latin. Locals assume he was a tourist who fell from a cruise ship or received a head injury and floated away from a resort. The authorities cannot match his description to any missing persons reports and his fingerprints and DNA produce no hits on INTERPOL. They suspect he may be Welsh or French because the language he speaks resembles Welsh or Breton but France and the UK both state he is not a citizen of their country. Stateless and deeply confused, he is taken in by the community near the beach where he was found, being cared for by a number of local families and doing odd jobs. He slowly learns English and adjusts to the contemporary world, uncertain if his belief that he is the legendary King Arthur was formed by whatever traumatic event caused him to end up Jamaica or if he is actually King Arthur and Prydain is in eminent peril. Mysterious letters from Morgan begin to reaffirm his belief he is King Arthur. He must choose between staying in Jamaica and continuing the happy life he has made for himself or finding a way to get back to Britain without any documentation.
ancient king white boy stuns locals by ordering in perfect Jamaican Patois
He gets to Britain and everyone expects him to sound like a posh noble Englishman because that is the picture Malory painted but he prefers to speak Welsh and when he has to speak English, he speaks with a thick Jamaican accent.
also the way he pulls britain out of said peril really pisses off the right wingers, at least in part because he recognises that he cannot do it alone and chooses those he trusts (his jamaican community) as his knights
Absolutely, Guinevere is the Jamaican nurse who took him in in this universe and many of his friends in the Jamaican community that took him in are analogous with/reincarnations of common characters from Arthurian mythology. Except for Merlin. Who is the original Merlin. Who is living a retiree lifestyle in The Bahamas for plot and wizard foresight reasons.
Unrelated side note, I love slipping in an occasional Prydain in place of Britain just to remind everyone King Arthur was not English. The landmass is Ynys Prydein to him. ☝️
maybe cain wldnt have killed abel if they had video games to healthily channel the violence between siblings. unfortunately back then the only smash brothers they had was smash brothers head in with a rock

“Twice the power of love” is my new favorite description of bisexuality
Anyway I’m crying because that’s the best and most genuine description of how it feels to be bi that I’ve ever heard.
woke up this morning, rolled over, and very confidently tried to blow out my alarm clock like a candle. absolutely no precedent for that.
In the year 1450 a priest rolls over and slams his hand into his candle, burning him and sending wax flying all over the place

IF I WERE IN CHARGE OF GRINDELWALD'S POLICIES...
Since people were asking me for this, just based on the BOOKS and disregarding the films, as a writer, here's what I would have done with Grindelwald's actual movement/policies:
this is not a Pureblood movement, that's just shorthand to tell anyone who only knows about Voldemort that this is a Bad Guy, makes no sense for Gellert to have those same viewpoints.
Instead, I would have set him up as a champion of "all magical blood is precious, all Muggles are the enemy"
his REAL enemy would be the International Statute of Secrecy
this would appeal to Albus; his sister was harmed because neighborhood boys were terrified of her magic, and his father went to Azkaban for attacking them in turn. If a Muggle harms a wizard, they have no recourse, because the concept of bringing the Muggles down in such numbers is too frightening and overwhelming for wizards to deal with, even with magic (any wizard can still get shot with a gun or get their throat slit). This is what drove them underground in the 1500s/1600s in the first place.
it's always been fascinating to me that the real reasons given for the Statute is that wizards were aware how MANY more Muggles there were and they were afraid of being persecuted (like Nearly Headless Nick), but these days they teach that witch burning was ineffective and kinda funny AND that they went underground because "everyone would be wanting magical solutions to their problems," which is a really (imho) effective way at showcasing the propaganda that wizards have been telling themselves for centuries. We're not afraid, even though we're outnumbered massively! We're just....shy!
One of his biggest aims would be to increase the number of wizards, which is understandably difficult given, er, inbreeding coefficients, and the fact that it's obviously difficult for most wizards to interact with Muggles (and therefore meet/mingle/procreate). We know of several mixed marriages, but all of them involve some degree of lying, subterfuge, and fear. if there were way more wizards, that wouldn't be so much of an issue.
The Statute ALSO makes it very dangerous/difficult for wizards to reproduce. If they aren't able to be THEMSELVES in a relationship, how could it get to the point of having kids? How do you court someone if you're hiding everything about yourself? if wizards aren't afraid to show their true colors, they would be able to date/marry/have kids with whoever, without fear that they'll split the family (if some kids are magical and some aren't, or if the Muggle spouse rejects them or any magical children).
he should/would be a CHAMPION of Muggleborn wizards - that's proof that magical blood will triumph over Muggle blood! If you want to give him someone to detest and discriminate against to show that he's Evil, give him Squibs.
His ultimate aim is to be in charge of the world, obviously!!! but that should be about empowering and centralizing wizardkind, because he sees the senseless waste and war and chaos that Muggles bring as unacceptable.
I see Albus and Gellert as ideologically aligned in the sense of "The Statute drives wizards into secrecy which encourages Pureblood ideology to fester and spread, leading to not only wizardkind being hunted and persecuted, but also the mistreatment and marginalization of young witches and wizards."
i.e. Merope Gaunt (driven into secrecy, unable to leave the house, brutalized by her father and brother), Sirius Black (tormented and bullied by his parents and house-elf until he ran away), Harry Potter (discriminated against and abused for his magic and magical heritage), Severus Snape (abused by his father), definitely lots of others who we don't know about who have suffered because underage witches and wizards have nowhere to go, no recourse, no way to ask for help. If they try to escape, they aren't able to use magic (because of the Statute) so they're essentially forfeiting an essential part of themselves.
The biggest ideological difference, therefore, would be - Albus follows a first-do-no-harm, only intervene when asked, you do NOT know better than everyone else and they all deserve autonomy even if you disagree with their choices, Prime Directive outlook, whereas Gellert sees himself as a veterinarian saying "i don't care if you don't like the pill you don't know the pill is GOOD FOR YOU and yes if i have to wrestle you into submission i'm going to make you TAKE THIS PILL because you are a kitty and you don't have a framework for 'pill makes my infection go away'
I realize this kind of turned into a rant about the Statute. but.
Does this not make WAY more sense???
does anybody know how to get out of bed. or be a better person
wow
Is anyone else fascinated by Phineas Nigellus Black’s relationship with Dumbledore?
He was headmaster while Dumbledore was a student and he would’ve known about his father being arrested. Dumbledore was Head Boy and Phineas chose him for that role. Furthermore, he was headmaster until 1925 so he was the one who hired Dumbledore to teach. (I know he dumped most of his work onto his deputy, but I think that choosing the Head Boy and Girl and hiring staff are things he’d do himself, or, at least, would require his direct approval.)
I might be the only one, but I desperately want to know what he thought about Dumbledore.

There is something so interesting about the way Crouch described the torture of the Longbottoms as "a crime so heinous that we have rarely heard the like of it within this court" and what it says about Bellatrix.
I believe torturing two aurors until they literally lose themselves in their own minds is not easy to achieve. On the surface, it does tell us about the extent of the sadism and cruelty, but when you take Bellatrix's love for Voldemort into account, I think it says a lot more about her grief.
She believed he'd return, but that doesn't mean Bella wasn't grieving his disappearance for months (I'd guess at least four months since people were starting to feel safe again).
Also, Voldemort had been in power for a decade and I'm sure that court had heard about plenty of horrible things committed by the captured Death Eaters. And yet one of the worst crimes was committed by Bellatrix while she was grieving Voldemort...
I think Bella's grief and desperation played a major role in the Longbottoms' fate. I wouldn't be surprised if Barty was telling the truth when he denied the charges and that Bellatrix alone carried out the torture. I also think she used a lot of Legilimency on Frank and Alice, but that's another story.
The absolute contempt for these locks is palpable.
