Every once in a while it hits me how incredible it is that we have this gift of a genre. I just clicked off the last episode of A Dog and a Plane, and I suddenly felt so much joy. To go from an existence where we were lucky to maybe find some little indie film that had queer romance and a happy ending to a place where I will never be able to watch it all... this was inconceivable to me, even just a few years ago.
I don't know if us older fans will ever really be able to fully articulate what it's like to go from that desperate search to find somewhere a representation of a part of yourself that you don't even fully understand yet, to this tsunami of all different kinds of stories, from incredibly silly to deeply soulful.
And I know there's still a lot of bad shit going down, and there will be steps backward, and there's so much progress still to make in representation, but also the genie is well out of the bottle at this point, and it's only going to keep growing.
There's not a lot of things that make me happy right now, but this... this makes me happy.
