#I worked at a violence prevention center for 4 years including in 2020 and one of the national organizations put a training out #about the history of the violence prevention movement aligning with police early on and how that informs every bit of DV legislation #at that point we were still working with the local PDs to get them to do lethality assessments and connect victims w advocates on site #we had a form on our website to log any stalking incidents bc we KNEW the cops wouldn't act unless you had documented mountains of proof #all this to say. even the people working in violence prevention trying to enact change and help victims know the cops are useless

I make the same joke with this meme like every 6 months but also I mean it every time

Gavin had a good ending, where he was finally able to accept love and platonic intimacy and found people he cared for enough to fight for them. Jax got stuck in the hole they dug for themself and just kept digging until they had pushed away almost everyone until they self-destructed. They were both rude and awful to the people around them as a way of keeping distance, but where Gavin allowed Tina, Chris and Nines to get close, Jax couldn't do the same with anyone in the circus, and their outcomes are two sides of a very sad coin.

And, while Gavin being pansexual didn't have as big and explicit of an effect on his story the way Jax's gender identity does for them, there's something to be said for his acceptance of his queer identity and finding even some level of community in it that I think is interesting to compare. Gavin is absolutely allergic to any level of vulnerability but aside from his job, his queerness is like the one thing he's secure about. Leeroy may have gotten something like that in the real world, but Jax never gave themself the chance to try because they were pulled into the circus at the lowest point in their life and they couldn't grow through it like Leeroy did.

I loved the TA/DC finale and my least favorite part of it has to be the massive amount of people I see every time I try to engage with fandom who understood exactly none of what happened or any of the themes and just wanted another mystery sci-fi story with tons of lore and hidden meaning

Like yes this show about grief, finding community and identity, mental health, and the importance of reaching out to others both when you need help and to help others, had a finale about someone who repeatedly rejected most of those things and suffered deeply for it until they ended their own life, being given a chance after death to come to terms with their trauma, the way they hurt others, and the fact that they had people they could have asked for help who would have stood by them. Why is that surprising or unexpected
