a dwindling, mercurial high, by sassymajesty
Swallowing past the ever growing lump in her throat, Lexa forces herself to say something — because they’ve agreed on this: no hiding, no lying, no shouldering things alone, only open dialogue could give them a fighting chance. “This feels like crossing a line.”
Clarke doesn’t answer right away, tightening her grip around Lexa. It helps, it always does. It keeps her from crumbling, and it only just manages to do the job now. When Clarke speaks, her voice is small. “Haven’t we crossed all of them already?”
“You know what I mean,” Lexa says, peeling her eyes from the white clogs that don't belong to Clarke and turning around in her arms. She keeps her hands on Clarke’s forearms — anything more than this, and it’ll be a lost battle. Not for the first time, Lexa tries to make Clarke see reason, pleads for her to be the rational one between the two of them. “This is your apartment, your bed. Her bed.”

This is the 85 year old creator of Roger Rabbit:
like, here’s the thing with Andy Serkis and with other people’s stupid complaints that whiteness is requisite for any adaptation of Tolkien to be “lore accurate”: literally how does that matter in any way, shape, or form? even if we don’t approach this from a textual vantage where we delve into the lineage and ethnic composition of Middle Earth in order to justify diversity, why do you care?
because there ARE textual arguments for diversity. Tolkien himself stated that Hobbits and Harfoots were of varying skin tone, and there’s that famous descriptor of Sam’s “brown” hands that offers significant ambiguity. there’s the geographic relationship of Harad and Gondor, which suggests trade routes and cultural as well as population exchange, in addition to the marriage of Berúthiel into the line of kings. even before that, the conflict and exchange between Númenór and Harad in the Second Age implies extensive contact and intermingling.
but none of them ever even glance at this because it truly doesn’t matter to them. it has never been about lore, it has always been about ownership, and about the exclusion of any other claim to a story. that’s it. it is so unbelievably shallow and simple minded.

Was talking to a coworker today who explained that her grandfather was like Snow White “but Californian. And an old man.” in that the creatures of the forest would follow him around and presumably duet with him.
“When he died the ravens sat in the trees outside for a week, watching. Taking turns. A horde of raccoons tried to break into the house every night, tearing at the siding. Eventually they gave up, but it was unsettling.”
“Aww. They were checking on him!” I said, like a normal person. Internally, I thought “Maybe you could do the thing you do with dead pets, where you show them to the living pets so the living pet understands they’re gone. But I guess if you did that to a bunch of scavenging species, they’d be like “Well, that’s very sad but he IS food now.” So what you’d need, for human sensibilities, is some sort of transparent corpse barrier. Like a see-through coffin oh that’s what the dwarves were doing! You’ve stopped paying attention to this conversation about the loss of a beloved family member you gotta phase back in.”
oh that's what the dwarves were doing

So I do 3D modeling and printing as a hobby, and a few weeks ago I designed wheel guards meant to prevent office chairs from running over cables and clothes... or your pet's tail.
I got the idea from cowcatchers old locomotives used to have.
Anyways, yesterday I uploaded the model to Thingiverse, and just hours after uploading it, the Community Relationship Manager of the whole website left a comment suggesting I enter the model into a competition that's currently being held on the site.
So I did... and now it's in third place not even a day later. First place is $500, but the competition still has a month to go.
Then the Community Manager contacted me again, telling me they want to feature my model in an upcoming design promotion.
Just, what is happening? I mostly made this thing for myself in, like, an hour, and now it's suddenly super popular? This is all a little bit overwhelming 😵💫
Other models I worked on for weeks didn't get nearly as popular. I swear, it's impossible to predict what people will like.
Anyways, if you want to print the wheel guards yourself, you can get the model here or here.
I also made a quiet version you can stick furniture felt pads on.
People love simple, extremely practical things. I hope you win!

This is cute but why are people still drinking in the nazi bar?
“Huh why do all the nonbinary and intersex people seem to hate every binary that is dependent on genitals we come up with? Maybe they’re just whiny. Surely the next binary that is dependent on genitals we come up with will show them how much we need binaries that are dependent on genitals.”
