You know what? This is time for POTUS to start honoring his ticket promises to me. I want my regular one-on-one meetings. I want more responsibilities in infrastructure and education reform. I want an expanded role in deficit reduction talks. I want a Cartier fucking dildo.

you’ are biased against my skull
i’m not having this argument again man
the world as will and representation by authur schopenhauer!! a bit reductive at points but i find looking at it from a positive lens pisses his ghost off and is funny

decided on thursday that my newest attempt to be a novelist again instead of someone who last wrote a novel when she was 19 is romance novel june. this is a thing i've invented where it is june and i write a really tacky romance novel and skip every scene i'm uninterested in and then if it fails it's fine because by july i get to forget all about it. i bullied z into trying it too :) such is the power of best friendship and peer pressure.
SHE'S an upper-class delhite postdoc at U of T with no friends. HE'S a second-gen brampton boy uber driver with no prospects. two years ago she TAd a course on south asian literature and he was the class clown in her discussion tutorial. she hated his ass. so when they run into each other and he asks her out (because he had a massive crush on her when she was his TA and was humiliating himself to get her attention)... well. if i complete RNJ, then they fall in love.
rnj day 2 update: 1446 words. the name rajbinder goes by is robby, bhumika is just being a dick. did i have fun coming up with THE MOST mainlander name for her and THE MOST diaspora name for him that i could possibly think of? yes!!!
happy pride month
hii could i perhaps recommend a book !by a philosopher unsure if its up your alley smiley :) smiley
totally i read very widely!
may 2026 reads
also read a lot this month. suspect this will not last now that i’m working full time but oh well.
thus was adonis murdered by sarah caudwell. i liked this a lot and i’m not usually huge on mysteries. i thought it was very charming.
not quite a husband by sherry thomas. this was a romance novel about the main couple raping each other back and forth until they fell in love again (they were divorced). it is wildly popular.
skin by dorothy allison. really fantastic. gave me a ton to think about especially re identity. loved it.
then came you by lisa kleypas. meh overall but i did find the anti-italian racism pretty funny.
hot milk by deborah levy. for my first foray back into literary fiction about unhappy women this was a good choice. really nice prose.
when strangers marry by lisa kleypas. REALLY funny that aaron burr was a prominent character in this book. otherwise fairly unremarkable.
morality and the law by richard a. wasserstrom. really fascinating textbook about the influence of christian morality on lawmaking. glad i picked it up.
wed by proxy by alice coldbreath. coldbreath comes highly recommended on historical romance subreddits and i can see why people like this book. competent and enjoyable.
bastard out of carolina by dorothy allison. one of if not the best book i’ve read this year. made me cry several times. i loved this.
his forsaken bride by alice coldbreath. i do not see why people like this book!!! she was a doormat he was a nightmare. i’m fine with men being nightmares i don’t like when women just take it.
right now i’m about 60% through lena dunham’s famesick which i’m enjoying a lot as a woman in her early 20s who recently rewatched girls.
there's a lot of reasons why people perceive the state of literature as worse than it ever has been but they all boil down to this:
we are experiencing the literary landscape now and we did not experience the literary landscape of the past.
a lot of people have tagged this talking about survivorship bias, and that's part of it, for sure, but even more than that, "books i don't like show the moral decline of society" has been a cry of the conservative since the growth of novel-reading in the 18th century -- take the reception of gothic novels in the 18th century and sensation novels, yellow-backs, and penny dreadfuls in the 19th. Ruskin's "Fiction, Fair and Foul" is an early entry in the "grimdark is bad, actually" genre of post, and
"... writing in 1863, H. L. Mansel castigated the new subgenre [sensation novels] as "preaching to the nerves instead of the judgment" (357). Since early in his anti-Sensation diatribe Mansel refers to "A pale young lady in a white dress" (358), we can be certain that his chief target is Wilkie Collins, whose The Woman in White (1860) initiated the Sensation mania." (VictorianWeb)
mansel's dislike of Collins leads me to my next point: many novels that are currently held to be classics and assigned without objection in middle and high schools were the center of controversy when they were new. we're having the same panic about romantasy that we had about sensation novels that we had about gothics.
we look back at critics who say that courtship novels will ruin girls' idea of marriage as silly and misogynistic because we're not immersed in the culture of the time (and, of course, because they were silly and misogynistic). what will people of times future say of us?
