I’ve tried to be less judgemental as I get older, but I am pretentious about a few things and one of them is rice.
PLEASE. I AM BEGGING. WASH YOUR DAMN RICE
Wash and rinse your rice until the water is clear, pick out any discolored grains, if you use a stove and not a rice maker, use more water by volume than you do rice (depending on grain, maybe 1.5-2x as much), steam the rice until ALL water is absorbed, do NOT uncover the pot to stir, allow to rest after removing from heat, etc.
Obviously I’m a white person but to my knowledge this way of preparing rice originates in Eastern Asia. Correct me if I’m wrong!
There are other ways of making rice that are like... allowed, and valid, but in my household rice should be soft and fluffy and not crunchy.
we make basmati rice at least once or twice a week in my house and I promise. I PROMISE. it is SO EASY please dont burn your rice please pleaseplesaplesalepls
one serving is roughly a quarter cup of rice, add more or less depending on your number of people
rice to water should be 1:2
pour ur rice in a bowl and fill that shit with lukewarm water. stir it round with ur fingers for a minute until the waters all cloudy, then pour that water out
do it again like 2 more times until u can see the rice through the water (doesnt have to be clear cuz thatll take ages but just so that it's not Completely Opaque yk)
fill up ur pot with ur ratio of water and boil that shit
dont add the rice until that shit is BUBBLY! the bubbles are what stir the rice around in the pot
add ur rice and slap a lid on that thing, then wait like 10 minutes before checking
ur rice should be completely soft! and if it is soft then turn off the heat and drain the extra water out immediately, overcooked rice is nasty mushy crap
bam. done. now put curry or vegetables or whatever on it and u got a meal
if I see any of yall ruining ur rice after this I'll cry very loudly
