4 Minute Window* -i absolutely adore this series and have read it all the way through like three times. It's so wonderfully well-written and I love the characterization in this one. I will forever come back to 4MW
Infinite Coffee and Protection Detail - also well known as This, You Protect (the main fic of the series) and really good. Bucky stalks Steve and makes friends with old people.
Ain't No Grave - really fun take on the Bucky figuring himself out after the events of TWS. He "adopts" a couple of homeless teenagers and also gets addicted to heroin.
Bucky memory, identity, and healing
to memory now i can't recall -40s Bucky swaps places with 2010s Bucky who's still trying to remember BEING Bucky. so much to love. All the versions of Bucky being healed in ways they didn't know they needed.
Memory -beautiful and heartbreaking take on Bucky and his memory and identity. He doesn't remember anything and asks to be called James. He touches Loki's scepter and gets switched to Bucky, but 40s Bucky.
i was found and now i don't roam these streets - I read this recently and loved it so much. There are so mamy different takes on Bucky recovering from being the Winter Soldier and this one is so uniquely wholesome but not in a way that takes anything away from Bucky's character
Effects of Obliteration -an AU where Bucky is the Winter Soldier but The Avengers find him in cryo abandoned in a Hydra base not having been released to the US. He gets to relearn how to be himself without the part where he almost killed Steve.
The Man on the Bridge -series. Well-written. Written post-TWS before AOU. Bucky takes a while to heal. Tony makes hard decisions. Tony doesn't suck.
Swollen Knuckles and Skinned Knees: the Love Story* - post TWS. The Smithsonian got a lot wrong. Beautifully written. Author is togina who has a TON of really good fics (a lot of them short and full of feels). I'm a little addicted to her writing right now.
Don't Confuse Me For That Other Girl -cute, wholesome, short, sweet. Bucky remembers that he loved someone before, he just doesn't remember who it was.
Pull Apart the Dark *-so good. So so so good. Bucky's still recovering from the Winter Soldier thing and they all live in the tower. Hydra hits Steve with something that turns him into a toddler. The summary didn't interest me, but I saw it rec'ed and I am in love with the author so I gave it a chance. The first chapter hooked me in. It's almost 80k and I read it over the course of 38 hours. Would have been a day if I didn't sleep. I highlighted and left comments on every single chapter. It's amazing. Easily top 5.
Endgame fix-it
reasons why you don't want to talk (about reasons why you don't want to talk) - it's a fix-it fic and i honestly don't remember it specifically (I've read a lot of fics back to back and they some start jumbling together) but I bookmarked it and I only bookmark ones that I really like and might want to return to. Written by napricot who is lovely and does a lot of fix-it’s.
if I'm gonna get back to you someday - another fix-it by napricot. SO GOOD. Clusterfuck of Steves. Bucky gets different types of reassurance and closure from each Steve.
Twelve Step - another fix-it fic. This one has a big focus on the Thunderbolts and I absolutely loved it. I think the author really managed to nail the characterization of all the thunderbolts too. Same author as The Man on the Bridge.
Misc
The stone's in the midst of it all - It's Stucky, but it's a gorgeous take on Sarah Rogers and Sarah's backstory in Not Easily Conquered is based on this one (stated in AN of NEC) I had it on my marked for later list for a while because of that and after reading I immediately had to see more from this author (also togina)
Brooklyn - also togina. Cap becomes a queer icon. Bucky is the only person in the world that doesn't know.
The Light Fantastic -Steve has plans. Bucky rarely believes Steve's plans. Set in the war before the fall. Written by togina, need I say more?
The Myth and the Man - this category of my list might need to be renamed togina fics. Steve reads a book about himself after waking up in the 21st century and remembers all the parts that aren't said about Bucky.
Brave New World - this is surprisingly not the togina fic that I left the comment “respectfully as possible, fuck you” (I did in fact leave that on The Light Fantastic if you were curious) but this deserves that sentiment twice over. The only pass is that it’s very much warned in the summary that it’s depressing.
How to Woo the Winter Soldier -it's a comedy and it's hilarious
Portraits From the Front - explicit. Bucky finds some of Steve's naughty drawings. Author here is stuckytoyoulikeglue and I recommend probably most of their work. Mostky explicit. Lots of AUs and Shrunkyclunks.
So, You Let RPF Into Your Heart - Peter Parker gets sucked into shipping Stucky and writing fanfic. It’s so cute.
Mine - this is so good. It’s the POV of a convenience shop owner that first sees Steve and Bucky while they’re on the run and doesn’t recognize them.
The Weight of the Shield - this gave me feels. Has some toxic Stucky. I will not be elaborating thank you

Heaven and That Other Thing *- I adore this fic so much. It's a shrunkyclunks fic and I think the first fic I ever read that both made me legitimately laugh out loud (multiple times) AND cry. I've read it I think four times?
Apple a Day - this was so good. It's a shrunkyclunks fic that gave me the same kind of delicious vibe as Heaven and That Other Thing. The stories are COMPLETELY different, but it made me laugh, it made me cry, it encompassed the characters so well for being an AU.
Trust Enough* - Shrunkyclunks where Steve meets Bucky and accidentally thinks he's an escort and hires him. It's a fun one I swear. Also written by the same author as Effects of Obliteration
You Weren't Wrong, Buddy - short shrunkyclunks where Steve sits in on a lecture in a class being taught about himself. It's cute and queer
Just Another Shrunkyclunks - another fairly short one that is a VERY interesting take
Bucky Barnes Has His Shit Together (and Other Lies He Tells Himself)* - complete AU where Steve is a successful business owner of a bakery and Bucky lives above it. Steve is going through a divorce with Peggy, Bucky is working through his own trauma, it's cute and fun and I didn't expect the tears it brought me
Burnin' For You* - complete AU where Steve is a fire captain and Bucky is a detective sergeant and they have a history but they notoriously don't get along. This was so good. Something about the description made me read it the same day I found it even though my marked for later list is huge and I almost immediately reread it based on how much I loved it.
The Steve Rogers Problem* and Civilians, GDI* - I cannot recommend these enough. They're complete AUs (though they feel shrunkyclunky because Steve is an actor that plays Captain America on a tv show). The Steve Rogers Problem involves Bucky (injured ex-FBI agent) falling into fandom and writing Captain America fanfic and then ends up meeting Steve Rogers. His healing journey is beautiful. Civilians, GDI is an AU of The Steve Rogers Problem detailing Bucky and Steve meeting if Bucky didn't get injured and go through all the emotional growth. I actually love Civilians more. It can be a standalone, but I think it's best appreciated reading both.
Slide to Answer - same author as The Steve Rogers Problem. Funny little fic where Steve is a mess and they're both kinda dumb in the best way
Soul Under Wing - Stucky set to a Greek myth. I was not familiar with the Greek myth in question (nor much with greek mythology in general) when I read it and I still found it quite captivating and despite being a total AU based on another story, still capturing Steve and Bucky at their core. Upon my googling of the story it's based on and resding the quick summary, it is a very good interpretation. Horribly well-written. It is togina after all.

Persistence of Memory -it's cute and it's explicit and lovely. Bucky starts to make great strides in healing with Steve and Nat.

Where They Hang the Lights* - this goddamn series has me in a chokehold. I found it recommended when I was doing a little branching out into SamBucky. The first part (gator around the warm beds of beginners) is SamBucky with respect to Steve. The second (and i won't come back the same) is Steve/Nat with a heatwrenching interaction with Bucky. The third (where they hang the lights) is a lot more fluff and all four of them together. As a pretty hardcore Stucky shipper, and i won't come back the same FUCKED ME UP and made me not care that I was reading a setup for Steve/Nat. I think in Stucky there's so much focus on Bucky's trauma and healing and memory that not a lot gets focused on Steve and all the trauma and baggage he also has. This is raw and ugly in the best way. This is one if those series I finished and am having trouble deciding what to read next and if I want to read the whole series over. Also by napricot.
World War Threesome (Steve/Bucky/Peggy) also some Steve/Nat
Stress Relief - series of interconnected PWP one shots. They're very good. And they have way more feels than would be expected from porn without plot. There's almost a secret plot going on in the background that ties it all together beautifully. You can follow it or you can just enjoy the nice smutty fic on its own.

Let's see. Give me a second to remember how to do this. All the writing I've done for the past year has been in legalese, except for my texts to you, which you told me are, quote 'borderline incomphrensible'. Not my fault you were raised in a haunted tower by evil governesses and don't know memes.
Currently, I'm sitting on your couch. I don't really like being at my place right now, and David doesn't like it when my neighbours make noise, so I've been spending a lot of time at yours. You probably already know, given I'm sure your security team logs every time I use my key, but I like it here. It smells like you, it feels like you.
I used to imagine what kind of place you'd design for yourself if you could, and this is so perfectly you that I swear my brain quiets the second I'm inside. I love all the pens lost inside this couch, I love the stinky artisnal cheese in the fridge, I love your fingerprints on the kettle, the way you fold your sweaters. I love the picture of you and Bea on the piano, the one where you're 12 and she's 15 and she's wearing all that eyeliner and you're looking at her like she's the coolest girl in the world. I love the Chelsea scarf over the fireplace even though Pez told me they're shit and I should support Arsenal. I love that you've already accumulated a dozen cookbooks, and I would say there's no possible way you've opened all of them, but I can see the sticky tabs and sauce stains from here. I love your books and your rainboots by the back door. I love how the corner of the rug in your study curls up just a little because you toe at it when you're thinking. I love your smell on the bed sheets.
I miss you so much already. I swear I spent every possible second that I wasn't at school or studying with you. But I still didn't get enough of you to last me until July. I should have been more careful about storing you up. I was burning through you like like there was all the Henry in the world and now I'm in a Henry shortage. It's awful.

I think I speak for us both when I say how glad I am that the year is done, but, my god, what a wonder to watch you in command of your powers. I've never doubted this course for you, but I am certain now more than ever, that you will be the stuff of nightmares for your opposing counsel. We are tremendously lucky to have you on the side of good.
I'm sorry I couldn't be with you to celebrate the last of your exams. I hope the flowers will suffice.
While doing research at the library recently, I came across an 1857 compendium of Victorian flower language and predictably became obsessed with it. Ranunculus is said to mean, 'I am dazzled by your charms', so naturally, you require this. I know we've discussed this already, and you've assured me that your classmates will take you out and get you too pissed to even remember about me, but I fear I am troubled by a more selfish prospect: my absence from your memory at such an important moment.
At some point in the early days, I resigned myself to witnessing your best from afar. I imagined reading your accomplishments in the news, clasping glass champange flutes from the back corners of halls in spotlights in which you stood. At my most masochistic, I would conjure the cool shadow of your gaze as I shook your hand, a state guest at your wedding. I am not yet so accostomed to our new reality to have forgotten that feeling. I want to be with you always; present and part of everything.
As I packed to leave, I found myself reminiscing on the letters we used to write. I wonder if you might indulge me in writing each other again. Proper paper and ink letters. We could keep them in the safe in my closet after reading, no one else would ever know they exist until we drop dead of old age and our great-grandchildren published it posthumously to rapturous praise, of course.
What do you say, my dear scholar? The return address on this envelope is Shaan's personal inbox, so anything sent there comes directly to me by his hand. Might you spare your sweetheart a missive or two from your cluttered desk? It could even be a bit cheeky if you wanted. It could be anything, so long as it was from you. I could use the entertainment where I'm going.

Steve is overwhelmed and hanging by a thread, doing his best to take care of Bucky while still deeply traumatized himself. He finally has a breakdown over the stupidest of things: bananas. So Bucky takes care of him.
In which Steve learns to surf, Bucky becomes a gardener, and they both begin to heal.
