"iphone=faster/better camera" must be the biggest case of outrageously false propaganda that so many people have fallen for
whenever I watch a movie where people are like dismembering someone alive and they're all chanting "hail satan hail satan" I always think "WOAH WOAH WOAHH GUY'S I NEVER ASKED YOU TO DO THIS! I DON'T NEED YOU TO DO THIS! I HAVE A TUMBLR ACCOUNT YOU CAN FOLLOW ME ON!"
I kind of don’t want to believe you, but at the same time I know what it’s like to have a toxic fandom.

man i hate the allure of a good grilled cheese. you make one and eat it and its so good and perfect, maybe a little bland but in a good way and you instantly think “man that was a really good grilled cheese, im not entirely full yet, maybe i’ll have another…” dont do it. don’t even think about it. it’s the opposite of oreos. you make your second grilled cheese and 3 bites into it you’re so overwhelmed by the monotony. “this isnt nearly as good as the last one” despite being practically identical. The grilled cheese is a sacred food, it must be eaten hot, and quick. A second one only allows you to stew in the memories of the past (your previous cheese) and your nostalgia clouds your mind, creating an epic fail bite in your newest creation of dairy and grain. Show some restraint.

fascinated by the terf buzzword "male violence" because I've yet to see a real explanation of what unique property is shared between cisgender men and transgender women that lends some kind of special power to any violence committed by them
a lot of the times it's used it seem to come from the oversimplification "men oppress women, ergo 'males' oppress 'females,' and I think trans women are male, ergo there is no material, systemic, or social difference between the classes of cisgender men and transgender women, so we can simply reason about transgender women as if they are part of the same category"
A Swarm of Kitties.
A bushel.
A herd of kitties.
A nationstate.
I want many kinds of kitties in all sorts of unions.
A school of Kitties.
(cada vez que paso un taller de autos) ohh los autos son no binaries, me alegro por elles
puppyplay pero hago de fatiga
when ur reading old feminist literature and nodding along until they pull out the “trans people are evil and all hate women”
no literallyyyyyy anything published earlier than like 2020 I have to look up what they've said about trans women before I get too excited about their other ideas

I have a client who communicates exclusively via Microsoft Word.
If she has something to tell me, I’ll receive an email with nothing in the body, but a Word doc attached. That’s where she writes her message.
Whenever she wants to email me a photo, she does so via an empty Word doc with said photo set as its background.
But my favorite thing was the first time I witnessed her visiting a website. She had me spell the URL (“W… W… W… dot…”) and with my own two eyes I watched her type it into Word, made it a hyperlink, and Ctrl click it to go there.
I was so fascinated I didn’t even say anything.

I always forget Americans have sinks that kill everything
I'm so fucking scared of these things.
I genuinely don't understand those sinks. Why do they exist? Why is that necessary? What the heck are you putting down your sinks that necessitates that??? Genuinely curious.
I've asked around before and apparently in many areas of the US it makes more logistical sense to treat soft food scraps like cooked vegetable matter as water waste instead of having separate systems for food waste. It's just the easiest way to transport it given the way their cities are set up and how their water system works. This info is very out of date so I don't know if it's still true (I know a lot of US cities have green waste recycling programs these days) but that's where it comes from. It does make sense because the water pipes are the easiest way to get rid of goo without burning petrol by carrying it in trucks, so it comes down to pipe maintenance vs. garbage truck fuel and maintenance, taking into account how close composting facilities are etc.
I've never lived anywhere without a backyard (Australian, not much of a deep city person) so the idea of not having anywhere to compost food scraps was completely alien to me but I see the logic of the Sink Blender.
#thanks for (probably) explaining this!! absolutely baffling#now can someone explain why everyone in the US has a clothes dryer but the same ppl hand wash their dishes??#in Germany clothes dryers are still somewhat of a luxury - even when you have one you'll line dry most of your stuff#but most households do have a dishwasher. Especially once there are kids#is this bc water and electricity are cheaper in the US like with gas? Are dishwashers more expensive (than dryers??) confusing
I'm given to understand that dryers are normalised there because in many areas it's considered at minimum rude, if not straightup forbidden (HOAs baffle me), to line dry clothes outside. I do not know why. Americans just hate to see drying laundry I guess?
Some areas also have a lot of rainfall that makes line drying a pain but that's also true in lots of countries that don't tend to use dryers so I'm not sure it's much of a motivating factor. I'm mentioning it because Americans will if I don't.
it's cold, it's wet, and you're mostly living in flats, not houses with gardens to put up a line in - and hanging clothes out to dry indoors is how you get mould
so for example here in the uk many people have combo washer/dryers because there's literally no alternative - we have one and it's a life saver, some stuff you don't run through the dryer cycle but most of it you do and then it's just done - which is incidentally also an accessiblity need for many of us, compared to the effort of hanging damp heavy fabrics up
writing is so funny because i could write nonstop for 9hrs and then hit a block where im like "how do i transition between this moment and the next?" and then i just dont touch it for 6 months
Serious advice tho if this happens, it's likely because you already wrote past the end of the scene and wandered too far from the more logical transition point, and you should go back to the last time the writing felt "unforced" and cut everything after.
You can also just skip the transition. Really good writing can span years in a single sentence, like you can just authoritatively state fact and your reader will go with it.
This is GOLD! You just saved me like thousands of therapy costs lmao
When I was writing my fic last few months the strategy I used was "just skip all the scenes I don't want to write" and it worked great in my opinion
speaking of wikipedia, I was reading about the vietnam war recently, and I was appalled to find out how much weight wikipedia gives to usamerican perspectives of the war. I specifically wanted to know about the aftermath of the war and what life was like for the people living in vietnam, but wikipedia had very little to say on that matter. in the aftermath section of the vietnam war article, wikipedia contains only a few paragraphs, which are mostly spent fearmongering about the re-education camps where the vietnamese government sent the southern military officers and collaborators who fought on the side of the imperialists that ravaged the country for decades
even when wikipedia isn't proliferating red scare propaganda, they're still centering usamerican perspectives. take this sentence, for example:
"Agent Orange and similar substances have caused many health issues for Vietnamese people and the US crews that handled them."
why is there any mention at all of how agent orange affected the us crews that handled the substance? does this matter? the usamericans that were handling agent orange were the ones who were using it to poison the landscape of vietnam. these chemicals have caused severe health problems for millions of people in vietnam for decades after the war. why should anyone care that the imperialist colonizers of the usa who caused this health crisis also faced consequences? they went home to the usa, where they no longer had to live with these chemicals in the environment, and they had access to robust healthcare infrastructure that wasn't in ruins from being bombed for decades. cry me a fucking river
wikipedia's "neutrality" is explicitly imperialist. don't forget that
Just the name "vietnam war" is usa-centric. To the vietnamese it wasn't just a war. It was specifically the Resistance War against Americans. A war that happened shortly after my country told the french colonists and the japanese facist to fuck off.
The americans war tactic back then was described as "thà giết nhầm còn hơn bỏ xót", effectively usa soldiers were supposed to kill everyone. Doesn't matter they killed the wrong person, doesn't matter they murdered innocents. They just needed to make sure everyone is dead.
Agent Orange, the bombs, the horrible stories survivors of the war tell to younger generations,... but captured american soldiers weren't tortued, they were fucking cared for and then allowed to go home. Meanwhile, the american colonists poisoned half of my country and nearly burnt the other half to ashes with bombs. And now (english) wikipedia has the guts to call it the "Vietnam war".
Even worse? It's not just Vietnam. I have no doubt they have done this to other countries as well. Right now, from what I've heard, wikipedia is pulling the exact same neutral bullshit with Gaza.
It's disgusting.
i find the iron lung/phm crossover fandom deeply irritating if i can be honest. are you really so short on yaoi that you have to invent it out of whole cloth

me be like
Because I am a mentally normal human being with no unusual neuroses I find that when I am feeling especially frustrated, doing math to prove the validity of my annoyance is an excellent way of processing and expressing my feelings.
For example: I was recently trapped in long-distance transportation with a man who apparently didn't bring any tissues with him and proceeded to sniffle on a predictable cycle of one wet sniff every 15 to 25 seconds for approximately three hours. To prove that this is ridiculous and I am not overreacting by being annoyed, that is about 1 sniff for every 20 seconds, or an estimated 540 sniffs. 3 sniffs a minute. That's ridiculous.
I don't normally consider myself a petty person. I don't normally do anything with this information. It's just for me: a way of asking myself, "am I having an episode of some kind right now, or is this actually bullshit?".
Once, however, while on stationary guard with another security worker I did in fact contribute to his firing by running the calculations in a fit of internal frustration and concluding that- in addition to routinely arriving 45 minutes late to relieve me for my only lunch and toilet break- he was also absent from our assigned area of operation for a legitimate and easily-proven 78.9% of our shift.
(It was a low-traffic location. I had a lot of time. I made a pie chart.)
Anyhow, this is all to say that my personal productivity is something I take great pride in, and my brain is normal.
And- after running the numbers- it appears that while my productivity has increased 54% in the past year, compensation for this labor has increased an effective 1.5% adjusted to inflation.
And I'm mad about that.
BUT ☝️ at least I'm not being weird about it
