They really just went and DID THAT

Well, this is my first time in Tumblr, so I should introduce myself! <3 I'm Rui, and I'm a freelance translator and illustrator from Spain who mostly draws characters from the Cosmere saga, but I am also a huge fan of Bg3, Sonic, BSD, books and much more!

Here I leave some of my favourite pieces, so you can see my style and I hope you'll like it!

Kaladin in his rarest form: smiling! Nothing too fancy, just wanted to draw him in a less serious light for once. A few weeks ago @lamaery suggested a lighthearted interaction between Kal and Syl for my next Kal painting so if you like what you see, you have her to thank for this one! I originally meant this to be just a sketch but as usual I got a bit carried away and rendered some parts of it more than I initially intended to.

This is not a criticism of his books, I do really like them and I love the other woman he has written so I’m by no means insulting him. Like Yasnah and Shallan are great. But, I just felt like that whole character arc while it does make sense was awkward. I don’t even know how to properly word what I mean I just felt weird whenever reading those scenes. Idk if it’s like because it was a man writing about a woman embracing traditionally feminine things so it felt like he was saying to be feminine one must dress in frilly dresses and like parties or what that made me uncomfortable or something else.

But in his defense he like wrote Elend to be very understanding and accepting of her when she was rejecting those more feminine aspects of herself so it wasn’t like Brandon was reinforcing a misogynistic world view. Also it may also be good representation, like I’m not a woman so this is kinda me speaking out my ass, but in a patriarchal society like ours and the world of mistborn it would make thematic sense for a person to try and gain authority by expressing themselves in a way that is more masculine and so by having this incredibly strong character reject that and say I can be feminine and still be powerful is a meaningful statement.

idk like I said I’m not sure if I like it or not beacause while it makes me uncomfortable I do see what I think he was trying to do and maybe the issue is with how I interpreted it and not the way it’s written. If anyone has any thoughts on this that would be cool.
