The hearty laughter of an elf must be the most beautiful sound in the world.
Too often elves are portrayed as being quite stoic all the time. And maybe in times of war and trouble, they are. But it can't be always.
And I think what a glorious sound it must be when an elf really laughs.
The hearty, joyful laugh of Glorfindel. The golden laugh of Gildor. The dazzling laugh of Finrod. The generous laugh of Fingon. The rare and precious laugh of Elrond, more beautiful than the music of all the minstrels. The contagious laugh of CelebrĂan, when something's uncommonly delightful. The warm, unmarred laugh of Maedhros, before he was corrupted. The wholesome laugh of Celebrimbor that feels like home and beautiful treasures.
The ringing laughter of Elladan and Elrohir in true, unblemished merriment. The delightful laugh of Legolas, sometimes more than a little undignified. The unexpected, unguarded laugh of Thranduil, that bounces off the walls of his grand palace so that those at the edge of hearing range think, "Something amuses the king!" and have to smile, too. And the comforting laugh of Celeborn, and the shining laugh of Galadriel, and the full and glowing laugh of Arwen when her one true love shows his silly side.
Elf. Laughter. Do you see the vision?
