I have explanations for all these, based on my own interpretations of the ball minigame in Undertale, which I will place under the cut:
🩵Smerdyakov being Patience is probably the most obvious one, so it won't need much explanation. Smerdyakov is discreet, quiet, assumed to be hard-working and honest by his master. He's a schemer waiting for the perfect moment to act, after working every day of his life.
🧡 Mitya as Bravery is another obvious one. He throws himself into everything he does, whether it leads him to shame or joy. He's frantic, going from one idea to the next and being led by his heart and his gut. He's also very easy to provoke. People around him see it as foolishness and madness, but he has immense potential to confront difficult circumstances and choose life without hesitation. He has ceased to try to "figure out" the world, what matters to him is what path to run to next.
💙 At first, I wasn't sure about Katerina as Integrity, because whether she has integrity or not is still highly debated. However, I'm not assigning the souls from personality traits, but from how they act in relation to the world. Integrity's "original style" seems to fit how Katerina seemingly tries to defy fate in order to do things her own way, to carry her own ideas of duty to their very end. On the outside, she seems like a respectable young lady, but she often defies social convention like a Romantic heroine, all in the name of sacrifice chosen by herself.
💜 Grushenka as Perseverance also relates to how she does things rather than an obvious connection to her personality traits. Grushenka has been in a precarious position in society since she was young. She has found herself impoverished, abandoned, scorned and exploited, and yet she found her ways to use the little power she found within herself to escape from being trapped by men, even if she had to harden her heart. She doesn't merely throw herself into degradation, she carries herself forward and still longs for love, becoming a refreshing presence for Alyosha and Mitya.
💚I was a bit hesitant about who to give Kindness to, but Father Zosima fits like a glove. He renounced to everything in his life to dedicate himself to caring for others and guiding them. After death, he was scorned, but his teachings live on in those he loved, and that's his "victory".
💛 Ivan as Justice is the least obvious one, but I believe it has potential to serve as good character analysis. The flavour text, while vague, reminds me of how Ivan doesn't pull any punches when it comes to exposing the dirt of what he sees as human nature and pointing out what makes him reject the world and its "mayhem". He skips all the rational steps to go straight to the suffering of children, judging and accusing Humanity as a whole. It's a reactive argument that fits this characterization of "Justice": he identifies the unwanted elements and hastens to protect himself. He doesn't run towards it or adopt a caring attitude. The flavour text is also in line with the characterization of one of his doubles, the Grand Inquisitor, who goes to the very roots of the problem of unhappiness to end a chaotic existence and closes himself off. And on top of it all, Ivan struggles with guilt over his secret parricidal desires, which culminate in a cathartic moment before a judge and a jury.
❤️ The meaning of the red heart as Determination is not agreed upon, however, I will go with it because it fits Alyosha, alongside the flavour text. Alyosha, who is defined from the beginning as a youth who eagerly searches for the truth with quiet passion, is potential personified, starting off timid and inexperienced and discovering his own virtues as the story goes to deal with a family falling apart, his fears, his ideas being challenged, the meanness of the people around him, grief and the inevitability of tragedy. In the end, he comes out hopeful and ready to see what the world has to offer. The rest of the flavour text, which is not pictured in the images, says: "Try as you might, you continue to be yourself". Alyosha is still a Karamazov, but he has made the story end with "Hurrah for Karamazov" when it used to be synonymous with losing oneself.
One thing I've been thinking about recently is Mitya's conection to The Grand Inquisitor. I said it before while I was reading and now I'll say it again, but he kinda of does represent the man the Inquisitor was talking about. We see constantly that he wants and wishes to do good but always comes too short of actually doing it. But the curious thing is that he also seems unable to do anything truly horrendous (e.g. patricide). He seems to pulled by both sides to ever fully commit to any but still embodies the full scope of the human's capabilitty to do both good (being ready to let Grushenyka go with her previous, bowing to Katya) and bad (the whole 3000 rubles deal, general lifestyle). He has in him both the ideal of Sodom and Madonna
And I'll forever be lamenting Dostoevsky dying before writing TBK 2 bc I think the conclusion to his story arc would've been very important for the Grand Inquisitor bc as it stands now, Mitya is sentenced even tough he's inoccent and more importnantly, he chooses to escape rather than take the punishment. He acknowledges his blame, but still chooses not to take the punishment after all. It might seem to confirm that the Inqusitor was right and that man are too weak to come to God on their own but I think that, also, at least for the story as it is now, it doesn't necessarily have to be true
As I see it, we have both ways to think about Mitya's chooice in the context of the Grand Inq. One is the one where he forsook his punishment, yes he is not guilty of patricide, but he does carry the guilt for it, as does Ivan. He, in the moral spiritual sense, isn't inoccent. And we have what Zosima said, that everyone is guilty for everyone's sins. So Mitya taking the punishment would've been taking on everyone's sins on himself and suffering for them. But he doesn't. In one word, he is too weak to do it. Too weak to seek salvation trough that and reedem himself. Seems to prove the Inquisitor right?
But on the other hand, we have the very ending of the Grand Inq., the kiss. Alyosha seems to think Mitya too, isn't ready for such a grand punishment. And that points us to the kiss. Love is the answear. We see that Mitya's love for Grushenyka is the one thing that brings out the good in him. He plans to go to America and there work and lead an honest life with her all the while suffering for his past. Plans on their love to be their saving grace, for both of them. And him choosing that would be him commiting to what Zosima said, to participating in the active love, painful and arduous as it may be, but an ultimetely good path
And I think that ultimately, whether Mitya would've turned out to be a better person or not would've either confirmed or denied the Inquisitor. If he still went to America and nothing changed or he and Grushenyka fell off or anything of that sort, the final message would've been that yes, humans are too weak to ever achieve salvation, that they always run away for the easier solution, that they can never help themselves or be truly good. But if he did become a better man, if he suffered and came out of it good and capable of love, then, as I see it, we would've had the kiss and Zosima prevail
I am quite possibly rambling nonsense and bulshitting or missing the point (if so feel more than free to tell me or jsut in general share your opinion), but yes, here are my thoughts
i was wondering about what ivan's fursona would be yesterday and started drawing a thing of ivan explaining his oc lore and then i stumbled upon this post by @gegengestalt which mentioned
110. One of Ivan's "most stupid" thoughts is being the fat wife of a merchant.
and i was like "AHA!" and thus this was born
idk what circumstances would be required for ivan to reveal this information about his fursona and the way this turned out doesn't fully communicate the "has been rambling on for way too long and has no idea what he's saying anymore" i was going for but

I was going to write a long post about a brothers Karamazov pirate au but I realized I basically just want to see Grushenka as a pirate and Katerina as a noblewoman ship lady and they kiss a lot and Mitya is also there dressed in some smattering of both this is all for the sake of costuming and making out
I made a post on Twitter as a statement because of something an ex mutual said about Argentina but made the grave mistake of calling the cursed islands the name that starts with Mal and ends with vinas and now I have like 20 Anglos on my ass
