I like to believe that all the dragons in the world were magically cursed and turned into cats. But cats have never forgotten where they come from, hence the attitude.
I nearly didn’t reblog this but the above comment makes more sense than anything I’ve ever heard.
…that’s…that’s actually a story my mom used to tell me when I was little? That a dragon showed up at someone’s cottage so they gave it milk. And the dragon enjoyed the milk, so it kept coming back and got smaller and softer and purry-er until eventually it wasn’t a dragon anymore, it was a cat, and that’s where cats came from and why we keep giving them milk.
She might have gotten the story from Ursula K. Le Guin, or I have confused it with a different dragon story.
That’s also why cats tend to hoard their toys behind the couch!

The best part is that, from my understanding, there were quite a few scenes where George Miller said “No this is too dangerous we’ll do this in post” and the rest of the crew was like “NO LETS DO IT NOW WE CAN DO IT”

Mad Max actually had a ton of cgi, just not what you would expect! almost all of the landscape was cgi and most of the explosions were cgi enhanced. George Miller was incredibly open to letting CGI artists do their work on the movie but kept their influence to the areas that cgi is currently really good at. Good cgi is cgi you dont notice, and landscape is an area cgi has DOWN
Iirc, there was also a lot of subtle cgi done on the characters’ faces. If you’ve ever noticed that everyone’s eyes are painfully expressive even in very poor lighting and dark areas, that’s because cgi was used to brighten and enhance reflection and contrast of their eyeballs, making their eyes look like they are in full lighting even when I’m dark rooms or facing down.
It’s a super subtle touch, and completely impossible with practical effects, but it helps build a hyperreal aspect to their performances, making them easier to read.
