Of the characters in the show he is easily the one I identify the most with.

At first we think Jackson will your random cliche popular kid, but it turns out he is so much more than that, and the show really explores some of the consequences that come from it. First of all, Jackson is not your bad trope jock, he genuinely a good person, charming, inteligent and athletic, the whole package, and then, as the shows moves on we also see he is a gifted kid.

There is a lot about the gifted kid on tumblr, so I cut it to the chase. Jackson is good at stuff, and then it becomes not something fun, but something the pressures him to be better. Suddenly, it is not enough to be good, he has to be best. His mother  tries to make him the best, to the point where the pressure doesn’t even need to come from others and he starts doing it to himself. Anxiety, self harm, Jackson has the whole package of issues a lot of people go through, and hi character arch is really great in dealing with it.

In season one, he spends a lot of time trying to conquer Maeve, but when he tells she is the only good thing in his life, while exposing his own issues, that was the moment we the public can realize he is not ready to deal with a relationship. Jackson in season one is not in a position to give as much as he takes, to him a relationship would be crutch rather than a mutual relationship. His healing would never come from romance but by forming a relationship.

Most people with ADHD get to college and everyone instantly stops caring about them. And after college? It gets worse.  Because they consider ADHD a learning disability, and learning disabilities don’t matter if you’re not in school anymore, right? 

I said this to a teacher and she goes, “No, if you look at the statistics, most people stop taking ADHD meds once they get to college.” 

That doesn’t mean jackshit. 

Kids with ADHD get to college and they graduate from college and their parents aren’t paying for their prescription anymore, or the prescription just runs out and you can’t get an adult doctor to prescribe it to you for various different reasons, so you’re either spending your time suffering and not being able to handle it, or you’re self medicating with booze and weed and cigarettes because that’s the best you’ve got to keep your mind at least a little bit level.
