I know we should all hate dark!percy for the obvious reasons but can I say part of the reason I hate it is because I looked up aroace!percy on Ao3 once and practically all the fics were dark!percy. That doesn't seem like aphobia at all... make a canonically good character aroace and also evil totally not aphobic(/sarc)! sidenote there was also a fic where Rachel was aphobic for some reason?? I didn't read it because DL;DR but it was still odd to me. Sigh my poor aroace!percy heart.
Damn,that's a new one.Usually dark Percy shoots for ableism(taking Percy's bpd and bipolar-coding as signs of her-sorry,'his' morals leaving 'his' body and 'him' not being able to get therapy or medication canonically as where dark Percy hoes get it from source material wise-the 'people who've experienced a lot of violence are most likely to enact it on others' revisionist history myth and general 'psych0' tropes at play essentially)and racism(black/brown Percy headcanons' popularity influencing those people to see her as far more 'feral' and much less thoughtful than she is and forcing her to pursue white masculinity anyway because moc don't have their own kinds masculinities,right?that'd be a ridiculous and unfounded and kinda weird claim /s)but aroace Percy in dark Percy surprises me since most DP content is so tastelessly oversexualized-That said,it's absolutely connected to the fact it's Percy alongside aspecphobia in gen.Her moral compass is constantly reduced down to whoever she's shipped with by practically the whole books centered side of the fandom and notably not just Percabeth shippers.I have a full rant saved for later on it but i am so sick of the superiority complex on dark Percy truthers over supposed 'normie' fans in their eyes,as if they aren't the most aggressively normative dorks in the entire 2010s debut era bookworms sphere besides that series
Onto Percy,you've noticed this already too i believe,that hardly anyone reads Percy as someone who values anything over romance even though her canon senses and expressions of devotion are pretty much on equal levels towards every loved one of her's and not dependent on attraction.She just displays them through Percabeth the most because her and Annabeth have the most onpage interactions and lbr,with all the misogynistic Annabeth mischaracterizations and reduction of P/A down to 'a girlboss x malewife bisexual power couple' or whatever else y'all had to tell yourselves to convince yourselves Percy's a man,they don't even really like her or the ship and that's why Perachel always hurt them so badly,as Rachel brings out the best in Percy while still retaining her own identity and not tying herself to whatever serves her like y'all expect Annabeth to and Percy to when it comes to your ooc ships of her with men she would never even look in the general direction of consensually.Y'all are more than fine with turning an explicitly and heavily criminalized character who's blatantly a trans woman to boot into a caricature she was meant to be the opposite of,simply on not resisting gross urges and itches to perpetuate dangerous rethoric and acting like you're deep and smart for it and not steaming bags of pos
