and this is why we have a standard in the disability advocacy community of prioritizing people who have experienced the most structural and systemic ableism.

oppression is a vast web that has threads in every facet of our lives, even when just looking at disability. a lot of the time it can feel like a terrible monster that we'll never defeat. and maybe we wont, i dont know the future of humanity.

but what we do know is that people experiencing structural and systemic ableism often have high support needs or experience severe disability. these are our most vulnerable people - people who have largely been denied an enfranchised* place in society (*sociopolitical rights).

if we band together and advocate for them at a structural and systemic level, it becomes much easier for us to advocate for all of us. when the most marginalized disabled people have access, support, and safety, everyone does. disability is a marginalized group that anyone can be a part of.

and no, i dont mean that in a "so you should care" way. i mean the disability community is comprised of every marginalization. including queer people. the same goes for the queer community. every marginalization intersects.

so. combating queerphobia isn't about figuring out who "has it worst" or making a perfect hierarchy of oppression - it's about listening to people's experiences, and then taking the most pressing issues and tackling them.

I am diabetic, I am on Mounjaro, and it’s done better for my HbA1c (blood sugar average) than any medication in the previous ten years of treatment, and would likely push me back into effectively “remission” on a higher dose, which I cannot be prescribed because of market conditions; and if I weren’t already on it from the NHS trial period, I would likely not get it now.

I think another major factor is that Rick's cruelty and Justin Roiland's improv made the show famous, but neither concept was sustainable in the long term, leading Dan to step back and hire new writers. This was probably the best decision, but it meant that the seasons 1-3 era is permanently over.

If Rick and Morty came out today with the current group of writers, it'd probably be well-received, but the first three seasons had a creative spark and chaotic nature that's impossible to replicate. Unfortunately, the show's popularity also launched a bunch of ticking time bombs (Roiland's issues, overexposure, the toxic male fanbase, etc.) Maybe we would've always ended up here.

I don’t think I need to explain to y’all why this is wrong but in case I do, buying a service from someone and following their rules as a client is not a breech of consent.

A lot of the danger that comes from being a prostitute has to do with its illegality. If a client breaks the rules and the service provider can’t file a complaint without risking imprisonment of themselves and/or their client, that’s not a safe work environment.

The idea that nobody would willingly sell sexual services unless they’re desperate is just false. There’s also a lot of other jobs people do when they’re desperate and they don’t like doing. For me it was working retail.

The difference between me pretending to be happy for clientele while working retail and someone pretending to be happy while selling sexual services to clients is that while I was working retail I at least theoretically had sick leave, health insurance, and a way to file a complaint if a customer assaulted me.
