Hey, I have this idea and I want to know if more are willing to follow it:
Alice's Adventures in Wonderland started as just an improvised fairy tale that Lewis Carroll told little Alice Liddel and her two sisters, Edith and Lorina, during a boat trip on the river Tames near Oxford, during a warm summer day.
This boat trip took place on July 4th, 1862, with some fans considering this date Alice in Wonderland Day.
However, this date is often outshined by the flashier traditional Fourth of July celebrations in America.
What if during this year, we all celebrate Alice in Wonderland Day.
So if you like me aren't from the US, and want to escape the stupid Fourth of July of the Americans, know that there's something whimsical and magical that you could be celebrating instead.
If you ARE American, but you are not feeling like celebrating Fourth of July this year due to President Trump actions and all the rise of fascism and jingoistic propaganda, know you could be celebrating this
Instead of this

Funfact this isn't a new concept and I'm very happy to report that Oxford still does celebrate Alice's Day with activities all across the city to honour the story. Alice day has been around for actually quite a while and is much beloved and a lot of fun for young and old, highly recommend, it's absolutely worth the visit!
Every year The Story Museum celebrates Alice's Day, a city-wide festival all things Alice In Wonderland.

I cannot get this poem out of my head. It haunts me. Joyously, it haunts me.Â

The old school lack of transparency on tumblr is amazing because you assume the people you follow must all be equivalent to you and then you see someone write âI brought my youngest to college todayâ and someone else write âmy mom wouldnât let me listen to Ariana Grande when I was a kidâ and then your head explodes
and we need that! keeps us humble.Â
Then I'm just like WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOUâRE AN ADULT
It goes the other way, too, because WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU'RE A CHILD?!!
I'm 16, that's like, barely a child
I'm in my 30s. You are baby
I'm older than both of you in a trenchcoat.
honestly one of the best things we can do for ourselves is realize that people of different ages than us can still be the same kind of person as us. it's humbling and it gives everyone involved a sense of continuity, and it busts those stupid generational stereotypes media is so fond of.

Iâm so sick of the German media coverage for extreme heat being âjust enjoy the summer near a lake/ in a pool :-)â so hereâs what you should really do to stay safe:
PSA for heatwaves
drink enough water! At least 2 litres, up to 3 litres depending on how much you sweat. Avoid alcohol and caffeinated drinks cause they dehydrate you.
stay inside or in the shade as much as you can. Reported temperatures are measured in the shade, and it can be 10-15ËC hotter in the sun.
when you go outside, always wear a hat and sunglasses and wear thin and loose clothes from natural fibres that cover most of your skin.
where skin is exposed, put sunscreen on with SPF 50+ for lighter skin tones and at least SPF 30+ for darker skin tones. Depending on the UV index, you need to reapply sunscreen every 1,5 to 3 hours.
take short cool showers twice a day, let your hair dry in the warm air.
ventilate your home before 10 am and after 8 pm. In between, keep all windows and doors shut and shut the blinds or shutters too.
if you have an air conditioner, set the thermostat not lower than 24ËC to 27ËC so your body can adjust when you have to go outside.
if you canât install an air conditioner, at least get an electric fan. Only use it when the temperature is below 40ËC or it will heat the body.
if your home canât be kept cool enough, spent 2 to 3 hours in air conditioned buildings like supermarkets.
DO NO LEAVE CHILDREN, ANIMALS OR ELDERLY PEOPLE IN PARKED VEHICLES!!!
Feel free to add more tips in the comments! But donât add climate crisis denial, we should be way past that.
Reblog to spread awareness!
Today our judges review our fourth & final semi-finalist, in this year's Self-Published Fantasy Blog-Off (SPFBO), Eric Lewis' The Artificerâs Knot!
Our finalist reveal will be Friday the 26th! đ

i bet it feels good to be an underwater plant just swaying in sync with the flow of water
today I found out my mother doesnât know what dandelions are and now Iâm wondering what other strange secrets sheâs been quietly harboring
Where do you live that you donât have dandelions?
we have dandelions EVERYWHERE, they are basically our State Weed, it is absolutely impossible that my mom has never interacted with a dandelion before, this requires further investigation
So after extensive interrogation I have an update:
my mom is in fact aware that dandelions exist. she temporarily forgot the name and there was some miscommunication.
the truth is actually weirder
sheâs aware dandelions look like this
she is familiar with this flower. she knows the name of this flower. she declines to believe, however, that these are also dandelions
she does not believe these are the same plant. I tried to explain, and she thought I was either misinformed or lying. so I asked her what exactly did she think the yellow ones were called?
she answered, with complete confidence: Daffodils.
gosh I enjoy this website
For comparison, this is a daffodil
See, folks in the southern US will tell you up and down those are buttercups, actually.
i donât think so? iâm southern and buttercups are what we call these things (much tinier)
Wait I thought those bigger cup ones were Easter Lillies???
This is an Easter Lily. It is an actual lily and therefore deadly to cats.
Theyâre marigolds and I know a bitch when I see one!
This is a marigold:
âŚ.we need to start taking the phrase âgo touch grassâ more literally. go outside and examine a flower i beg u
âbuttercupsâ is a name applied to MANY flowers. in my part of the south it was this one:
imo thereâs correct identifications of dandelions, daffodils, easter lilies and marigolds in this thread, but buttercups are simply impossible to agree on and the only solution is for everyone to post pictures of their local buttercups
*squints* is that a motherfucking EVENING PRIMROSE?!??
