Or rather, my brain soup came up with a headcanon for the Earthspark cassettes [and Soundwave in turn] at 11pm-
So in Season 1, Episode 7, "Family and Friends", Bumblebee mentions that Soundwave tried to employ one of his cassettes while starved on energon, only for them to explode instead. Now most of the fandom [me included] like to think this cassette was Rumble, because the angst potential. Bro.
Sooo what if I made it more angsty,,,
The cassettes were like peas in a pod, with Soundwave being the latter. Rumble and Frenzy were twins, and being music lovers, they both donned weaponized instruments to bring to the battlefield melodious murder.
While Frenzy had her laser-blasting guitar, Rumble had an electrifying bass, both metaphorically and literally. They synchronized with eachother, using their respective weapons' high and low notes to disorient and disable opponents: Frenzy made audio receptors ring with her guitar's shrill notes, and Rumble made the ground tremble with the booming notes of her bass. Adding Laserbeak and Ravage's support, the cassette quartet was a force to be reckoned with.
But now, the cassette quartet wasn't even a quartet anymore, because Rumble was gone.
Frenzy could still remember seeing Soundwave's chest explode, with Rumble barely having left it. Armour and wiring turned to flame and cinders, blue and red charred black and brown. She could never forget how Soundwave's chest cavity spewed out parts of his internal frame, how Rumble blew up into a hundred pieces of burning metal, how she could hear them scream till their voiceboxes glitched and their sparks practically implode as one of them died.
She didn't remember much after that - thank Primus she couldn't - because the only memories she did have after witnessing her twin's death was a whole lot of pain, unconciousness and grief. She knew Soundwave didn't forgive himself after that; he still hadn't, and she and her remaining siblings noticed how cautious he grew of all their energon consumption, making sure they had enough fuel all the time. Soundwave didn't even seem to care that he almost died in the process, because he was drowning in the abysmal depths that was grief for the part of him that did die that day. All of them were griveing.
And Frenzy wasn't really the same anymore after that. None of the cassettes or Soundwave were. Frenzy didn't have any rumbling bass to complement her sharp guitar, no maroon to go with her purple, no stupid red idiot to playfight and bicker with. Not anymore, not after Rumble kicked the damn bucket and left a missing piece in each of their sparks. For Frenzy, it felt like half her spark was gone, because to her, it really was.
She didn't even get to say goodbye.
When they came to Earth and saw Lord Megatron with the Autobots, the enemy who they'd been fighting for milennia, who Rumble died against, Frenzy knew Soundwave had every right to be furious. She felt her own anger bubble when the traitor tried to coerce them into surrender.
"Don't make this personal, Soundwave." He had said, as if he was the one who lost a sibling, the one who lost a kid. The former warlord would never understand just how much Soundwave and the cassettes had sacrificed for the war, for him.
Frenzy readied her guitar, digits over the chords that would produce the loudest notes she could muster. That was Rumble's job, and it was supposed to stay that way.
She wanted to rupture the deceiver's audials and make his processor implode within itself - even though Rumble was the one who enjoyed it more than she ever would.
