Also ngl the more Silksong I replay, the more I'm moving away from blaming GMS for Pharloom being an imperialist, colonizing machine- she's not entirely faultless, but unlike Marika (who I thought was the best comparison to her), she doesn't seem to have been directly responsible for ALL of the horrors that Pharloom did during its gilded age. It's more the Conductors and mortal bugs that did so, which is honestly pretty fascinating because the more I learn about Pharloom the more the timeline seems to be GMS moves in like some sort of dragon -> destroys the Coral Towers, as dragons are wont to do -> creates the Weavers to serve her -> gets got and goes to sleep -> becomes the centerpoint of worship and easily-accessed divine power for the bugs the Weavers used as a placating replacement in order to flee Pharloom -> becomes the unwilling/unknowing source of growth and expansion for these bugs -> starts to wake up and just fuckin eat the residants of the empire built around her hoard bc shes still a fucking dragon and these little bitches aren't part of it

Don't get me wrong, she's still responsible for the abuse of Lace and Phantom/enslaving the Weavers, and the Haunting is also A Big Fucking Problem, but she's so much more like a natural disaster or a wild animal to really blame for The Horrors that Pharloom came up with. That sort of abject cruelty and infliction of suffering is something that only mortals with an intimate understanding of pain can inflict, not a being that treats them as mere tools to manipulate the environment around her
