Something for all the âBut Mike Pence!!!â types still arguing that we shouldnât try to impeach Trump.(article)
Thank fuck, someone explained this more eloquently than I could.
(Though another reason this galls me is that Trump should be impeached because he has violated more laws than any president in our history. He needs to be punished for that. Saying that he shouldnât because you donât like the guy who comes next is attempting to game the system in much the same way the Republicans have been. Impeachment isnât about trying to get the president you want. Itâs about punishing the ones who break the law.)
I try to keep politics off this blog but god damn

This isnât because Burger King is nicer in Denmark. Itâs the law, and the US is actually the only so-called âdevelopedâ country that doesnât mandate jobs provide a minimum amount of paid vacation, sick leave, or both.
kinda debunks that claim that they canât afford to pay their workers those sort of wages and still make a profit
Its corporate greed, plain and simple.
It is the same in Sweden. It is so funny every time an american company opens up offices here and then tries to do it the american way and all the unions go âI donât think soâ.
Like when Toys âr Us opened in sweden 1995.
They refused to sign on to the union deals that govern such things as pay/pension and vacation in Sweden. Most of our rights are not mandated by law (we donât have a minimum wage for example) but are made in voluntary agreements between the unions and the companies.
But they refused, saying that they had never negotiated with any unions anywhere else in the world and werenât planning to do it in Sweden either.Â
Of course a lot of people thought it was useless fighting against an international giant, but Handels (the store workerâs union) said that they could not budge, because that might mean that the whole Swedish model might crumble. So they went on strike in the three stores that the company had opened so far.
Cue a shitstorm from the press, and from right wing politicians. But the members were all for it, and other unions started doing sympathy actions. The teamsters refused to deliver goods to their stores, the financial unions blockaded all economical transactions regarding Toys âr Us and the strike got strong international support as well, especially in the US.
In the end, Toys âr Us caved in, signed the union deal, and thus their employees got the same treatment as Swedish store workers everywhere.
The right to be treated as bloody human beings and not disposable cogs in a machine.
and that story right there? is exactly why Republicans in the US work so hard to bust unions. itâs because unionizing WORKS and theyâre terrified of workers actually having some power.
So I want to point out for anybody who didnât get it that those companies would not be operating stores in these Nordic nations if they were not STILL PROFITABLE -Â even when forced to pay reasonable wages and give reasonable benefits. People STILL PATRONIZE them - they are not priced out of the ability to buy a burger or a watergun, or the stores would have shut down.Â
Read up on the story of Wal-Mart failing in Germany, and how badly they fucked up, especially when it came to unions and firings
When unions were more common in the United States, employers would have better wages and benefits, even if their employees werenât unionized. These employers were still threatened by unions, and if they didnât provide what unionized businesses provided, their employees would either leave or form their own union. And itâs not like the workforce in the United States was ever majority union. But it was unionized enough to be threatening to greedy employers and benefit all workers.

#there are two kinds of people #the hopeful and the exhausted
There are three kinds of people: the hopeful, the exhausted, and the pragmatic.
Small tip to help some of your blind friends: do not put 10,000 emojis in the middle of a text or a post if you continue to put text after the emojis because I will tell you that I will Straight give up if I have to listen to âface with tears of joy, face with tears of joy, face with tears of joy,â 23 times just to hear the rest of your text or post.
Oh my god, thatâs what screen readers say when they read out emojis?? I didnât realize.. I will change how I write my posts now⌠My badâŚ
This is good to know. Pretend there are twenty three light bulb emojis indicating sudden understanding following this text.
So the clap hands emoji post would be extra annoying since you canât just speed read it, damn!
YES. That is one of my least favorite emojis because itâs LONG. It also says skin tone on some, and while thatâs AWESOME, if you put 30 prayer hands, I have to hear âhands clasped in celebration with medium dark skin toneâ 30 times in full. And even if I use a braille display, it still writes it out in full because thereâs no real way to represent them any other way yet, so until someone invents a Braille display with like 10 lines that isnât astronomically expensive, thereâs no easy way to skip over them.
Now, at least with some screen readers, punctuation is a little different and if there are multiple of the same thing itâll say like â17 exclamation pointsâ instead of saying them all individually, and I wish that update would be made to screen readers to speak emojis in multiples that way⌠That would be a good solution.
Is it okay to use emojis sparingly? I donât ever use a million like that, the most Iâd put in a row is probably two different emojis, lol. But I do feel the need to use either emojis or ASCII faces in order to get emotion across in my writing. Which is better for you, a traditional ASCII face like :-) or a newfangled emoji like âşď¸? Can your screen reader âtranslateâ things like :-) into âsmiling faceâ or do you just hear âcolon dash right parenthesesâ?
Oh yeah, of course! If you only use one or two in a row thatâs totally fine! Donât feel like you have to just stop using them. They are fun and lots of people like them.
As for emoji versus traditional typed out faces, it doesnât really matter. It canât translate most of those faces except for a general smiley face, but I know what the symbols put together mean, though this may be difficult for somebody who is not very well versed in print reading. Most blind kids get taught to recognize both though.
Thereâs so much good info on this post! I didnât know any of this. Thanks for making it!!
SchrĂśdingerâs boys
FUCK
What about cracking open a cold milkshake
As we all know, the milkshake brings the boys to the yard. The presence of the boys is a prerequisite for the cracking open of a cold one, but cold ones do not have any inherent boy-attracting abilities. Milkshakes, however, do. All else being equal, the boys would proceed to the milkshake yard. While it is possible to announce the presence of cold ones in the hope of attracting some boys, the pull of the milkshake is much more powerful by comparison.
mind you, all of this nonsense hinges on whether or not the boys are back in town

It took me too long to get this and once I did I was filled with rage.
teacher: letâs go around the class talking about our hobbies n interests:) letâs start wth you shall we? :)
me:
âWhen you walk, one foot is always on the ground. When you run, most of the time you are actually airborne. For example: a 6-foot-tall runner with feet about 1 foot long was found to take 1,250 steps while running 8-minute miles. Thus, while covering 1 mileâ5,280 feetâhe was in touch with the ground for 1,250 feet and airborne for 4,030 feet.
Put another way, he was in the air for 76% of the time. So donât think of it as a 10-mile run. Think of it as 7 miles of flying.â
- âRunning is Flyingâ by Paul E. Richardson
When people ask how I can run so far without meaning to, it takes me back to this.
this is a cool way to think of it
WORKING CLASS SOLIDARITY
My dad told me recently that the most important public health workers are garbage collectors and janitors. So much of our health relies on a clean environment. These people do some of the most important work in society. If we learned in dirty public environments full of garbage, weâd all be sick. I cannot thank these people enough for the valuable work that they do.

people who encourage calling the cops in case of domestic violence situations have obv never had the cops called in domestically violent situations.
theyâll arrest & endanger the victimâs ass too. especially if theyâre nonwhite & undocumented, and almost always is detrimental. so  NO donât encourage people to call 911 n ask for pepperoni pizza.
itâs better to document instances of abuse, HAVE A SAFETY PLAN, then leave and take legal action that you have control over.Â
Raksha Inc has a really comprehensive safety planning guide. http://www.raksha.org/safety-planning/ Â
there are probably abuse shelters & advocacy centers in your area, please google and protect yourself and your loved ones properly.Â
http://www.loveisrespect.org/Â also has a call and online chat hotline & v v v good resources.Â
