first time jewposting but idgaf what the pope or really any christian has to say about the "first testament" (torah) bc its not their book. idrc if this is controversial but im really really tired of the CATHOLIC CHURCH pretending to be the authority on a book they stole and appropriated from us ESPECIALLY considering their history with massacring us and otherwise making it impossible for us to live our lives.

lowkey i get so pissed off whenever christians tell our stories like theyre original like No that did Not happen in the "old testament" IT HAPPENED IN THE TORAH AND THEN YOUR RELIGION COMMITTED PLAGIARISM

arguing with a "the bible is all fake" person is so exhausting. "book of fairy tales!!!" well yeah it's the oral tradition passed down to us by our ancestors with the goal of teaching our children life lessons about how to live in the world. like every folktale. including fairy tales. "b b but its not true!!!!" yeah i know thats why i go to shul early on saturday mornings for torah study to sit down with my community and see what truths we can find in our traditional stories. "but somebody made it up!!!!!!" yeah, our ancestors did, to teach us how to live by our culture's laws and values. "but it didn't happen!!!!!!!!!!" no but what did happen is our ancestors cherished and protected and passed along these stories because the lessons they teach are so important to our culture so if you'd step aside please i'd like to continue studying what my predecessors worked so hard for me to have

one of the reasons I'm still religious despite my lifelong battle with faith is that the fantasy aesthetic of judaism is too good. You're telling me a faceless formless god made a covenant with my ancestors bound in sacred scrolls handwritten by master scribes on parchment too holy to touch, and these scrolls are decorated and revered and protected and held in such high regard that when the cabinet they are kept in is open you have to stand in respect. And also you seal this covenant in blood by cutting off a part of your body. thats hardcore say less.

thinks about how jews are hypervisible and yet hyper invisible. how we are always being spoken of and in the public mind and grouped with "abrahamic religions" yet how people know so little about our actual culture, religion, history. how people know about the holocaust but don't know why it happened. how people know the word "antisemitism" and say they don't support it but don't believe it's still a real problem. how people know jews exist but don't think about how antithetical to jewish life their christian societies are, how few jews there are. how people assume jews are just diet christians, just special white people, both to be made hypervisible as the supposed symbol of the wrongs of white christian hegemony and to be made hyper invisible victims of it.

Jews have had to remind people that we're an indigenous tribe, that we're not a universalizing religion, that we're not just Christians minus Jesus, that we're not all just white people, that the Holocaust happened, etc. but rather than say "oh, I didn't know that. clearly I've been laboring under several misconceptions" they've just gone "well obviously you just made that up"

goyim will hear Jews challenging their preconceived notions about us and go "sorry, it's your word against Mein"
