HOT DAMN IT'S THE QUEER SUMMER JAMS PLAYLIST
Every year I ask my friends to send me summer bops by queer & LGBT+ musicians. I also keep my ears open throughout the year for potential additions. Then, I collect the songs into a playlist that has exactly 69 songs and runs approximately 4 hours and 20 minutes.
In past years I collected bops on Twitter but uhhhh i'm not on the apps anymore so here we are.
Send me your favorite summer jams by queer & LGBT+ folks! You can submit as many as you like!
Bonus points for music released BEFORE 1970! History is vital & queer music has always existed.
Submissions are anonymous and I won't share any of your data etc etc
You can find past playlists here: https://queersummerjams.carrd.co/
(pls rb - Share & Enjoy and all that!!)
Volume 8 (2026) is live NOW go listen!
Song submissions open all year round.
These kinds of things give me hope
Milwaukee retiree Larry Jones, 85, came to a legislative hearing supporting a ban. He changed his mind after hearing from transgender youth.
“I have very little knowledge of gay people and things like that there, so when I came here, my eyes were opened,” he told the state Assembly’s Health, Aging and Long-Term Care Committee just after 9 p.m. “I was one of the critics that sat on the side and made the decision there was only two genders, so I got an education that was unbelievable. And I don’t know just exactly how to say this, but my perspective for people has changed. … I’d like to apologize for being here, and I learned a very lot about this group of people.”
After he spoke, several attendees applauded.

A herding dog at work
The ruling will have enormous impacts for transgender residents in the state.
HOLY SHIT
"The Montana court separately declared that transgender people constitute a suspect class under the state's equal protection clause. In legal terms, a suspect class is a group that has historically faced such severe discrimination that any law targeting them must meet the highest level of judicial scrutiny to survive—the same standard applied to laws that discriminate on the basis of race. [...] The practical effect is sweeping: any Montana law that singles out transgender people will now face strict scrutiny, meaning the state must prove the law serves a compelling interest and is narrowly tailored to achieve it—a standard that laws almost never survive.
"Because the decision rests entirely on the Montana Constitution, it is insulated from the U.S. Supreme Court. Under the principle of adequate and independent state grounds, the federal Supreme Court cannot review a state court's interpretation of its own constitution, so long as that constitution provides more protection than the federal one. [...] What this means in practice is that Montana's transgender residents now have a constitutional shield completely independent of the Supreme Court of the United State’s decisions."

What I love about this is seeing that he's clearly a hockey skater. Now, I don't know shit about fuck when it comes to cold slippy antics, but what I notice is different between hockey skaters and nearly all other skaters is that hockey skaters essentially run on the ice. Any other skater is trying to glide, perform, or be otherwise smooth. Create a new type of mobility, but on ice. But hockey skaters? The floor is slippery but that's why they've got knives on their feet, so it's running time. Run run run run.
So this is like playing tag on ice, except the one guy you're trying to get is magically not on ice. And I think that's pretty neat.
He’s also making really good use of the stoppers on the front of his skates. You can clearly see several times that when he starts juking and running he’s not actually running with the wheels in contact with the ground – he’s tipped forward to run on the rubber stoppers, which will give him more traction on the slippery surface. He can change direction faster because none of his kinetic energy is going into countering the inertia of spinning wheels.
I don’t know if the picks on the front of ice skates are used similarly (because ice hockey is not so much of a national pastime in Australia) but I wouldn’t be surprised. But I spent a bit of time with a roller derby team, and I recognised that particular stopper run :)
toe pick!

@_merilver_
im so confused about the artemis thing because theres that post going around about how its propoganda and they make a lot of good points but people i care about a lot are really excited about it and i dont want to hurt them and honeslty im tired of things that look good being bad
Hey.
The fascists don’t like NASA.
They don’t want stuff like this to happen.
They want to give NASA’s budget to the already bloated military.
As far as I’m concerned, it’s fine to celebrate a massive peaceful scientific achievement that’s a collaboration between the US and Canada space programs during a time when there’s so much bad news elsewhere.
I personally hope that this encourages a lot of kids to grow up and defend our space agencies.
but DO techbros like nasa? a lot of techbros i see are super into the idea of privatized space travel industry and colonizing mars, the first of which nasa is directly opposed to, and the second which nasa isn't really focused on.
the techbros i see really aren't into the type of science nasa does focus on researching, which is far less glamorous than what they want.
Not only do tech bros generally hate the quiet kind of science that NASA does alongside the flashy launches (NASA is a primary reason why we have literally any weather data in the US), but tech bros REALLY hate the other half of the Artemis Program that I don't really hear people talk about much
The Artemis Accords are one of the first large-scale civil policies about space and related activities to come about since the Outer Space Treaty in 1967. NASA wants to hold people (at least a little) accountable for the junk they're leaving in our orbit, and not enough people talked about this shit back when it got signed, so I wanna talk about it now
NASA, in coordination with the U.S. Department of State and seven other initial signatory nations, established the Artemis Accords in 2020.
Hey. Hey, listen to me. You cannot make your moral decisions based on whether bad people like something. If the techbros like pancakes the pancakes don't become bad. If the techbros hate golf the golf doesn't become good. Please think about ethics beyond group associations.
