"decenter trans men" from What Fucking Center
seeing creators make videos that make good points about anti-transmasculinity except they preface it with "trans women are obviously the ones at greatest risk" disappoints me so much. first of all, can we not have a single post discussing the oppression trans men face without having to add "of course trans women suffer the most though"? second, the entire issue we're trying to get across is that so few in the queer community know the extent at which transmascs are at risk, because that's the whole concept behind transmasc erasure! it seems like we literally just go in circles with this.
hello my name is politician i love israel i love the military i love the police i love ice i do not support healthcare i do not support education i do not support trans people i love billionaires i love corporations i love the cia please vote for me to stand up to donald trump who i hate but also please pray for donald trump violence is wrong unless you mean war with iran russia or china then yay VOTE BLUE

transmascs not experiencing the overlap between misogyny and transphobia that transfems experience does not make them privileged over transfems, as they also experience an overlap of misogyny and transphobia that transfems do not experience
saying other group has set system privilege over the other is just untrue, and who is more privileged will depend on the circumstances
systemically theres no real oppression under the patriarchy that trans men face trans women do not. you face regular misogyny, you face transphobia, and those don't intersect because transphobia in and of itself is misogyny
trans-misogyny is much more than Just An Intersection and the treatment of transfeminized people by society is inherently different. inherently worse. not just socially or interpersonally but systemically. this has been theorized on for decades. disagree? would love to hear any genuine analysis you have that's not "nooo i'm not privileged!"
“there is no real oppression trans men face that trans women do not.”
we need gynecological care. we experience higher rates of medical discrimination that effect access to gynecological care. our ability to get abortions is effected by this, as is it effected by abortion being made illegal. some medical providers deny birth control to trans people on testosterone hrt. forced pregnancy is commonly used to detransition us.
neither trans nor cis women face this in the way that we do.
“there is no real oppression trans men face that trans women do not.”
period stigma. the financial burden of menstrual products. female class genital mutilation. female class infanticide. stunted development encouragement as children due to sexist bias. in some countries we cannot leave without the permission of a cis man due to being classed as female.
“the treatment of transfeminized people by society is inherently different. inherently worse. not just socially or interpersonally but systemically.”
socially: trans men have higher rates of sexual violence, one in two trans men have been sexually assaulted. we also have higher rates of domestic violence, and intimate partner violence. we have higher suicide attempt rates. as well as being more likely to be in severe psychological distress and depressed. while less likely to be generally happy and thriving. we are more likely to be harassed or discriminated against in restaurants, hotels, retail stores, and bathrooms. and have higher avoidance rates of public bathrooms.
systemically: we are less represented in political office. we are more likely to have negative experiences with law enforcement. we overall are found to make less money. we are more likely to be harassed when we present incongruent identity documents. testosterone is a controlled schedule III substance that can result in criminal charges without a prescription. it is more common for us to be denied insurance coverage of hrt. due to our higher rates of medical discrimination we are also much more likely to avoid receiving necessary medical treatment due to fear of harassment and discrimination. we have higher rates of being in poor health. and avoiding healthcare due to cost. and are also more likely to be harassed or discriminated against by government agencies. as well as have negative experiences with airport security.
we also have comparable violent victimization rates with trans women. and trans boys are just as likely to be homeless.
you are factually and fundamentally wrong.
So transmascs are overrepresented in academia and leadership roles of volunteer groups, and support groups, and basically everywhere... but we also at the same time never contribute anything meaningful? What are all those apparently existing transmascs doing in those roles then, kicking their feet?
Dude that's just the old "the outgroup is strong and weak at the same time" that fascists always do.
Stay strong, wish you the best.
“If men could get pregnant, abortion would be free” men CAN get pregnant and they’re treated worse than women who can get pregnant
basically if you're ever telling any trans person they need to shut up and that they're taking up too much space talking about their own gendered experience I do need you to remember that cis people exist in this world who never ever have to compete for this kind of discussion space. their existence & experience is taken for granted. no trans person can ever take up too much space, no trans person will ever be too loud, as long as cisgenderism is still considered the norm. we do not need fewer of any type of trans person - we need more of all of us, everywhere, & we need more willingness to listen. more voices makes for a more solid foundation of experience. more hands for lighter work.
"trans men aren't seen as dangerous or predatory or--" have you ever spoken to a trans man of color in your life yes or no

people like the idea that there is an identity they can claim that will absolve them of the responsibility to examine their beliefs and actions and adjust them accordingly to better align with their values and desired outcomes but there isn't, we all have to practice humility and do the work regardless
"Women's spaces" is one of those things that sounds kinda ok when it is completely divorced from reality but the reality of gender segregation even on a small scale means there is no way to actually implement it that isn't incredibly bigoted and bullshit. What people are actually trying to do is make a space where they don't have to confront anything or anyone that is upsetting to them. But what people are uncomfortable with is based on emotional reactions.
Case in point, I've never been to a woman's only space that wasn't obviously hostile to me, and that's when I was even allowed there in the first place. And I understand why - my voice is very low and I make no attempt at voice training, I dress in a gender neutral way, hormones have done very little for me. Unless I am making a special effort to be feminine I clock as a guy. I am also tall and broad. The only way I can gain any kind of acceptance in "woman's spaces" is if I go to extreme effort to completely warp my presentation and step on egg shells the entire time. If im not actively ashamed and apologetic about the fact I read as a man I am not welcome.
Because, again, the reality of woman's spaces is that they are about the comfort of those who organize them.
I'm also very aware that it's not just non passing trans women who get the short end of the stick here. There is a long history of racism connected to these kinds of spaces that absolutely has not been resolved, for example.
The other half of the woman's spaces discourse is about resources, and is just so detached from reality it is kind of pathetic. The idea that a trans man coming into a woman's only space is somehow stealing resources from women is pervasive as it is stupid. The reality is that very few resources of any kind are expended in cases like this, and far more important is the single most important resource in marginalized politics, solidarity and coalition strength. Any "loss" of resources that occurs when lines are blurred is more than made up for by the social and political power that depends on different marginalized people regularly interacting with each other.
I think we can make the call here people, segregation is not woke. (Yes this is sarcastic in a "I can't believe I have to say this" way)
And that's just actual physical woman's spaces. The worst bigoty starts when people get abstract about it. Women who get mad about trans men who want to be included in discussions about "Women's" health care, for example. It takes a staggering degree of bigotry to not acknowledge that anyone who can get pregnant has a place at that table.
And it certainly doesn't stop with just cis women. For a long time one of the big anti trans men thing people were saying was that trans men were "copying trans women's homework" because there were a lot of obvious parallels between the groups. Again, it takes a staggering amount of bigotry to make that complaint. Even if trans men were taking ideas from trans women's struggles and applying that to their situation, we lose absolutely nothing! That would be a good thing! That is something to be proud of, that our trail blazing helped others. But some trans women had their heads stuck so far up their bigoted ass that they instead interpreted it as an invasion of their space, which somehow made them less special or something? I never actually got a coherent explanation for that one, which is not surprising as it was obviously rooted in bigotry and bigotry is non coherent.
"i hate men and love trans people" oh girl .. There is no world in which those two ideas can coexist at the level you'd like them to
i don't care if people make stupid "i hate men" jokes. i know it's usually them expressing their frustration with pericis men in particular. i get it! but if you genuinely, truly hate men, you do not love trans people. if you're comfortable generalising half of the human population i do not trust you to not generalise any other group of people. i do not trust you to not treat trans men like gender traitors. i do not trust you to be normal about non-passing or pre-transition trans women. i don't even trust you to be antiracist
"i hate men and love trans people" oh girl .. There is no world in which those two ideas can coexist at the level you'd like them to
“can trans mascs be lesbians?” can we pretend that airplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars? I could really use a wish right now wish right now wish right now

Once you start noticing the erasure and exclusion of trans mascs in everything from media to academics you can never stop noticing it
>most of the New Annoying Kink Discourse centering around trans women who are very obviously through text patterns and topics either derivative or directly from the /lgbt/ board >at least slightly likely that pre-transition some women held beliefs of white supremacy/general /pol/ nonsense >realize they're trans women, get a taste of systematic and personal oppression for the first time >think they're the most oppressed person in the room and have no idea what intersectionality could even entail because clearly they have it the worst
tldr; the white trans girl stereotype has a point to existing i fear
and when this ever gets pointed out by anyone even as a joke they start fucking BAWLING because oh how dare you remember she's white first. You're literally hurting her feelings, and that's murder.
