#it’s not that he doesn’t like us or anything #i don’t know if he resents us #but he for sure doesn’t want to do nor enjoys the whole ‘dad’ thing #it was pretty clear to me from maybe age 10 #before my mom even confirmed it a few years later that she was the one who wanted kids and my dad was pretty ambivalent about it all #and now that i’m 23 it’s even weirder #because we’re similar enough that we can be around each other and enjoy each others company often enough #but i really mourn a relationship i could’ve had with someone who actually wanted to do the dad stuff #if he ever did ‘typical dad stuff’ with me #it was because my mom told him to and not actually out of any desire to on his part #so while i can’t feel unwanted necessarily #there’s still a big gaping hole that opens up in my chest occasionally #when i just want to scream and yell at him why he couldn’t just suck it up and pretend to like being my dad sometimes #why couldn’t he have tried harder and played with us as kids #or made an effort to be interested in our personal lives #or tried to develop a relationship with us beyond what proximity necessitated #anyways today we got into an argument in the car and because of it he sped up so fast around a turn on a narrow dirt road that we nearly #flipped and it made my mom cry and he’ll never say sorry and i’ll never really want to be anything like him as i get older #and i just kinda carry a lot of grief at the lack of healthy male role models in my life #because they’re all too busy being angry at their own lives

#ahhh my twenties are going Excellent #i do love my friends at home when i get to see them #but now that we don’t all work in the same place together anymore #i see them maybe once? twice if i’m lucky? a month #and we don’t really talk in between #which was honestly a step up from the friends i had in high school where we almost never hung out or talked outside of school #but in both of those cases i know that they talk among each other way more frequently #so i’m still just kinda on the outside #and i didn’t have a frame of reference for how shitty that made me feel and how much it bothered me until i worked #in alaska earlier this year and made some really close friends #who i talked with every day #and lived with outside of work #and we texted and shared stupid tiktok’s and it was like i was finally in a normal friend group #and now that i’m back home in california i can’t hang out with them anymore!!!! and we can’t just casually chat making dinner next #to each other anymore!!!#idk man #i think i’ll just perpetually be the lonely kid at recess reading in the corner because no one wanted to hang out #doesn’t matter if i’m 7 or 13 or 23 lol #i even try to do the ‘be the change you wish to see!’ thing #and reach out and try to make plans myself to hang out #and the person i was supposed to get lunch with today just straight up ghosted me until like 45 minutes after we were supposed to grab food #they did apologize and we did reschedule #but damn dude lol i just feel like i don’t mean a whole lot to anyone in my friend groups #like if i never made the effort to reach out and talk to anyone ever again i don’t know how many of them would notice/care #i just kinda feel tired of performing the motions of trying to be a friend #for no one to reciprocate in any meaningful way because they all have closer friends that are higher priority
