I think I found my new favorite rabbit hole. This voice actor does Shakespeare scenes in a southern accent and I need to see the whole damn play. Absolutely beautiful
if you're not from the us american south, there's some amazing nuances to this you may have missed. i can't really describe all of them, because i've lived here my whole life and a lot of the body language is sort of a native tongue thing. the body language is its own language, and i am not so great at teaching language. i do know i instinctively sucked on my lower teeth at the same time as he did, and when he scratched the side of his face, i was ready to take up fucking arms with him.
but y'all. the way he said "brutus is an honourable man" - each and every time it changed just a little. it was the full condemnation Shakespeare wanted it to be. it started off slightly mock sincere. barely trying to cover the sarcasm. by the end...it wasn't a threat, it was a promise.
christ, he's good.
the eliding of “you all” to “y’all” while still maintaining 2 syllables is a deliberate and brilliant act of violence. “bear with me” said exactly like i’ve heard it at every funeral. the choices of breaking and re-establishing of eye contact. the balance of rehearsed and improvised tone. A+++ get this man a hollywood contract.
Literally frothing at the mouth. I read this play for the first time for a class this semester and I have been obsessed with it since. I need to figure out how to show this to my professor because I don't want to email him a Tumblr link but I don't think he'd appreciate it if I showed it to him in person 😭
The Cultured Bumpkin is he, and here’s the Brutus Speech on YouTube.
The main characters of the last fanfic you read are now in the last show/movie you watched.
How do they fit in?
Perfectly. It's literally their show.
Not their show but they're great anyway.
I think they're okay in the end.
Not gonna lie, they're struggling.
Oh they're so dead.
Literally their show but the fic was so AU that it's gonna be tough.
Literally their show but they died in their show so rip i guess.
now that we are all forcibly assigned teen by discord age regression style and everyone has cancelled their nitro. everyone whose been using a solo discord server as your paste bin and project planning folder to hold stuff you can get from your phone and pc both its about time you start saving shit and hop on obsidian. with syncthing you can get it realtime synced between your mobile and pc and any devices for free too. don't pay for monthly fees.
no you dont. thats what using obsidian with syncthing is for. theres many other ways to set up free multi device syncing with obsidian. syncthing is just what i use
syncthing can be used for fucking anything, im serious if you have a home computer/laptop/steamdeck/phone any kind of multidevice infrastructure, fucking set up synththing, i use it to keep my emulator saves synced between my phone, steamdeck, and pc. when I add books to my calibre library they auto download to my ereader and tablet (You have to have android ones like onyxboox for this), my music collection can be accessed and edited from any of my devices anywhere using a simple home server and syncthing to keep the files up to date between my phone, laptop and server, I can add songs from my phone or computer and they'll auto fill the server. Syncthing can unironically replace so many payed services it's crazy, want to sync your writing without google drive or any paid service? just use libreoffice and syncthing, want to be able to keep drawing between your pc wacom and your tablet? pick a program that supports both and syncthing the project files, Want cloud saves between a steamdeck and pc for non steam games? you'll never guess what syncthing can do.
To be clear, because it took me like five reads to realize this: the above posters are not saying "syncing can replace so many paid services" or "syncing can real-time sync info between your devices".
They are saying SyncThing, an open souce piece of software, can replace a number of paid services.
Just in case someone was confused and thought "syncthing" was a typo or didn't even notice the 'th' like I did. XD
I LOVE SYNCTHING !!!!!!
Let me ramble about Syncthing it's so good. When I jumped ship on Google docs years ago, there was no replacement for a live-hosted service that would allow me to access and edit my writing from any device. Ellipsus didn't exist yet, and while there were paid services that were all right, but I didn't have a stable source of income at the time and wasn't able to justify the expense.
I got Lite Writer on my phone, which is an excellent text editor and the only one I will ever use on my phone again. After using it for free for a few months, during which time I transfered .txt files from my phone to my computer by sending them to myself via Discord, which, yes, was exactly as awful as it sounds, I forked up a one-time payment of $20 to unlock the ability to use Lite Writer to easily set up a WebDav server on my phone which I could connect to on my computer. (Spoiler: I don't use this feature anymore, but I have no regrets for this purchase. $20 is a small price to pay to support the lone dev who made the only text editor I will ever use on my phone again.) This worked all right for a while, but there are some technical aspects of WebDav servers I don't quite understand and in order to access the server I had to have my phone and computer connected to the same wifi network, which was often a pain.
Enter Syncthing. Syncthing privately syncs the folders you select to the devices you select over any internet connection. These files are never stored on any computer except the ones you select, so you don't have to worry about Google or anyone else having regular access to your files. It works by sending a signal to each computer a folder is synced to whenever you change something in the folder, updating the equivalent folder on each device. It syncs almost instantly. I've been using it for months and had no problems. You can download it from the link above for your computer: on my phone I use Syncthing-Fork, which is maintained by different people but which works flawlessly. Listen this is so plug'n'play. Setting up folders to share between my phone and computers is a matter of scanning a QR code. It is so easy. Syncthing-Fork has all sorts of options that let me control how it works: I have some folders that are just text and I let them sync over mobile data but folders with bigger files can only sync over wifi to save data. It's so good. Each folder is managed separately so I can share them with whatever devices I want. I haven't tried, but I bet it has great applications for co-authoring or sharing your work with friends.
I also use it to transfer files between my phone and computer if I can't or don't want to physically plug my phone into my computer. I just copy the file into a synced folder on one device, and pull it out on the other side. It is so easy and convenient and listen. Listen. It is so easy and plug'n'play. Try it. Try it now. You want to try Syncthing

Someone asked why I bothered to bash Trump on social media
fucking hell. canada still played great i don't give a shit. this doesn't undermine their wins and every player on that team should still be proud of themselves
There’s studies done that say winning silver feels worse than winning bronze.
Give them time and some counseling.

Too many rich people buying medieval castles and then renovating the interior to look like a completely normal 21st century house. Sorry but if you're going to live in a castle you need to commit to the bit. If I lived in a castle I would restore it just enough to be barely liveable and pretend I was a poor but prideful nobleman in his crumbling estate, still clinging to the last vestiges of his family's fading name.
Right? Like I’d upgrade the windows (while keeping the charming small-pane aspect of whatever) and heat system but the whole point of owning a castle is to own a castle, not a bland mansion. Why bother?
Anyway I’m starting a GoFundMe to restore my own private castle, a 2-flat from the 1900s, which somehow managed to avoid getting all of the woodwork painted white. Your small donation will — *dragged off by hilariously oversized hook around my neck*
This. Renovations are fine when they’re an extension of the original style or an update of infrastructure to keep up with climate or current amenities.
Manor-purchasers deserve to live in homes that can be kept at comfortably midrange temperatures, and people deserve access to contemporary tech.
But make it look like people have lived there the whole time! Put a mid century modern couch in the library, but keep the baroque desk. Install HVAC if the infrastructure will support it, but choose grates that compliment the style of the woodwork. Keep the antique doorknobs, but install draft shields around doors and interior windows so you can close off rooms you rarely use.
the motorcycle on this season of the pitt is like chekhov’s gun except every hour chekhov is showing up with two or three more guns and now you’re starting to get worried. because obviously they’re going to go off but what kind of looney tunes ass bullshit requires that many guns. chekhov’s gun has become chekhov’s militia. and there’s still like 7 hours of your shift left.
Plus the guns were in a fucking GUN PYRAMID?? HELLO?? I didn't know motorcycle pyramids were even a thing.
I’m pretty sure a motorcycle pyramid is a relatively few motorcycles with a lot of riders. Like, base is five motorists on five motorcycles, second level is three, last level is one-type stuff.
One row of motorcycles, many rows of bikers.
Still quite a few Chekov’s Guns, though.
That's what I meant, less to do with the number of motorcycles but that it was a huge ~display~
Cool; sorry for my confusion
HOLY SHIT, IT WAS THE ORIGINAL ONE

fyi the point of fucking up your data patterns isnt to avoid suspicion. it’s to make EVERYONE suspicious. same logic as the bloc, pals. protect your comrades, be suspicious. ESPECIALLY if you aren’t doing anything likely to get you arrested.
the state is less omniscient and significantly more incompetent than you’d think. overextend their resources at every possible opportunity. make them cry wolf repeatedly. run their data analysis agents fucking ragged. and strike. attack.
YES i’m a postgrad statistics researcher and i can tell you that the state honestly has NO IDEA what to do with the data it collects, it has an obsession with big data but it’s almost impossible to work with in practice. the traditional statistical approaches that are used can’t be scaled up, the adapted approaches are substantially weakened, and the machine learning approaches have the same problems and often tell them nothing. data scientists are only just coming around to these issues too, most still just push on with it anyway - incompetence is the word. above all this though, like you say, the biggest issue for the state is at the point of data collection. they will NEVER get anything useful if they’re collecting shitty messy data. they will eventually figure out that the real solution is working how to collect accurate and meaningful data, we should make it as difficult as possible for them to do that
This makes me think that we need WAAAY more apps that generate junk data
Apps that generate junk data? tell me moooore.
Ooh I know this one!
Ad Nauseum is an adblocker that stores the ads it blocks and continuously generates fake clicks, fucking with analytics and costing the ad companies money
TrackMeNot automatically does randomly generated searches on a variety of search engines to obscure your real searches and fuck with analytics, and you can set it up to work with anything that has a search bar (including facebook, twitter, amazon, youtube, etc)
WhatCampaign replaces analytics parameters in links with the string “FuckOff”. I thought there was a similar extension that used random strings, but I can’t seem to find it
Privacy Possum is a fork of Privacy Badger with a focus on costing tracking companies as much money as possible, and idk if my limited tech knowledge is enough to understand what it does but the description does say it falsifies some data so that’s good enough for me
