i think the push in fandom to "find your people" is well meaning but can make those who have difficulty with that (or dont want that) feel isolated and like theyre doing fandom "wrong" if they dont have a whole cabal of beta readers to put in their 800 word a/n or whatever. fandom as any other hobby is a good way to meet likeminded people but does not necessitate this. you can crochet on your own too
