Social lives
More and more I am feeling the fallout of 2020âs lockdown on my social life. Iâm trying to un-break some stuff. I imagine this is a relatable feeling, but would I even write comics if I didnât think all of these are relatable feelings??
âŚTHEYâRE CALLED T-SHIRTS BECAUSE THEY RESEMBLE THE LETTER T
also they were originally a form of underwear and I think thatâs nifty!
GAUD THIS HAS LONG BEEN COMMON KNOLEDGE
I donât know what the fuck counts as common knowledge!!! for years I thought everyone knew that lobsters have teeth in their stomachs & blood can be used as an egg substitute. my perspective is slightly skewy!
How much blood contitutes one egg?
Âź cup of blood can be substituted for one medium sized egg
There are 37.2 trillion cells in the human body and this post put all of my cells in attack mode
does it have to be wet blood? because dried blood is more shelf stable
i actually have a similar question regarding the infamous âvirgin blood.â honestly, the dry stuff is just so much easier to work with
my thought process is that if milk can be powdered, blood probably can be too seeing as mammal milk is just filtered blood
#breast milk is actually called white blood by some people
milk is mostly made out of white blood cells, we should absolutely just refer to it as White Blood
Do I Need To Pull Out The Perpetual Lactation Story?
âŚyeeeeees? yes.
This is a summary of a branch of medieval theology.
As we all know, women are responsible for original sin, as a result of which mankind was cast from the Garden of Eden and women were cursed with painful childbirth. In addition women have periods, which are the sign of original sin.
Problem: The Virgin Mary was perfect. Canât have been cursed with original sin. No periods.
Question: Where does the blood go?
For all our wonderful theories about spontaneous generation and phlogiston, we do believe in some form of conservation of matter. If women have all this extra blood all the time, you canât just have one wandering around with it building up inside her. Itâs gotta go somewhere!
Well, we figured it out in the end. You see, as we all know not least from reading the above post, milk is just boiled blood. So for Mary, the blood just sort of condensed and she was in a state of perpetual lactation.
This led to things like a particular saint (itâs Bernard) having a vision of the Madonna appearing before him and squirting her breast milk into his mouth, to apply either wisdom or a cure for an eye infection, which has delightfully been depicted in several works of art.
may i change my answer
MOTHER MARYâS MIRACLE MILKERS
I can't believe we just let that lobster thing drop
Wow! Look at all those little pink stars! Each one is a table where you will find queer artists and/or queer stories. (Dang, comics has gotten real queer, folks.)

DEBUTING AT TCAF 2018 - HAVE FUN, LEAVE ME OUT OF IT by Tony Breed
The second collection of Muddlers Beatâqueer friends navigate dating, careers, and death, all with a sense of humor.
Exhibiting Creator: Tony Breed Publisher: Self-Published Price: $15 CAD
Hey folks! Iâll be at TCAF in a week and a half, with my BRAND NEW BOOK.
ROAR Comic Crit Winter 2017
A collection of comics criticisms and reviews published on ROAR Magazine: Literature And Revolution By Feminist People from November-December 2017! Taking on the role of editor (as well as writer) for the Comics Crit section has been a big challenge, and one Iâm still adjusting too, but Iâm very proud of all the wonderful writers Iâve been able to help spotlight. Hereâs hoping 2018 brings lots more opportunities for working with lovely people and publishing my own writing too!
I Canât See Myself On Venus: Astra and the Problem of the All-Female Planet, Casey Bohn (@bohnbohn)
This potentially cheeky, ribald concept â a princess from a planet of women sent to find a man â is presented with a leaden earnestness, inviting serious inquiry into its plausibility ⌠Even after âmillions of yearsâ of evolution, Astraâs people look exactly like Earthly women, and reproduce in the same way. Neither evolution nor the science of a futuristic, space-travelling society can find a better way â or even any other way â for life to go on. The message seems to be that if cisgender, heterosexual human reproduction became impossible on Astraâs planet, that would not be an acceptable variation in a literal universe of biological possibility, but an imbalance that must and will be corrected by the power of love.
Astra isnât going to hurt anybody who doesnât go out of their way to find it. The problem is not this one obscure example of bias-reinforcing narrative, but how utterly conventional it is. Genre fiction often sacrifices logic in this way to preserve the ideal of cis- and hetero- normativity as an objective, universal truth.
Minicomic Roundup: The Process of Processing, Rob Kirby (@robkirbycomics)
In this minicomics roundup, Iâll be taking a look at four self-published comics from four different creators [That Night (This Must Be the Place) by Tony Breed aka @tonybreed at Mega Hugs Press, Evident Truths & Day & Night for It by Tyler Cohen aka @tylerzonia (available at [email protected]), Orbiting by Penina Gal aka @penina-garlic (distributed by Radiator Comics), Sporgo 2 by Laura Pallmall aka @nothinglefttolearnâ, (Nothing Left To Learn)].
While these artists are of different ages, backgrounds, and aesthetics, all the work discussed here focuses on managing the impacts of grief, trauma, or simple day-to-day struggles. While that may sound like heavy-going, the immediacy and open nature of the graphic narrative form has a way of lightening the load of even the heaviest of subjects. Comics can be a great form of therapy, both for readers and creators.
Gods, Grief, and Family in âCloudia & Rexâ, Latonya Pennington
A decade ago, youâd have a hard time finding Black girls in a fantasy comic book. Now, comics like Princeless and Niobe: She Is Life are filling that void and showing that Black girls can be magical. Lion Forge Comicsâ newest mini series Cloudia & Rex adds more magic to the mix through a compelling family adventure starring three Afro-Latinx female characters. The completed miniseries was recently collected in a digital and physical trade book.
After the unexpected death of their father, 12 year old Cloudia, her little sister Rex, and their mother go on a road trip that is dramatically interrupted by Thanatos and Hypnos, the twin gods of death and sleep. When their car is hit by a blinding light, Cloudia gains the strength of a hundred gods, Rex gains the power to shapeshift into various animals, Âand the family finds themselves irrevocably embroiled in the godsâ affairsâŚBesides the artwork, the characters are wonderfully written by writers Ulises Farinas and Erick Freitas. Cloudia, Rex, and their mother are relatable, sympathetic characters each dealing with grief in their own way.

Thatâs Not Who We Are
((Excuse me while I weep for the future))
A Whole Mess of Emotions
The point of these #unpresidented comics are about me processing everything I felt and went through between November 9th and January 20th, but I feel this one is going to apply for the next four years (maybe less if weâre luckyâŚ). I still havenât figured out to handle this horrible roller coaster of emotions. Who knows if I ever will?
Read all the #unpresidented comics here
Here are all my hourly comics for the day, which also ran on twitter and Instagram. I've used hourly comics and a way to get out of my head and loosen upâto just make them quick and dirty. I feel that I may have gone TOO quick and dirty this time. But oh well.
