Modern fantasy au where Shen Yuan keeps feeding stray mythical creatures.
Shen Yuan & FaerieJiu first encounter
Shen Yuan, who ended up moving out of his high end apartment after a break in attempt went wrong, moved into a cozy somewhat secluded one bedroom house that bordered on the forest. It was an odd choice but he had his reasons, who could judge him? He had the money for it.
Since his backyard is quite literally just the forest, he gets to see many of the local wildlife come and go. Like a month after moving in Shen Yuan sets up a bird feeder. It was one of those solar powered ones that charges during the day and glows at night.
It was a simple thing that he didn't think much of. Until he wakes up in the middle of the night, thirsty as hell, and hears a loud buzzing sound that also has a 'jingly' undertone. Now, obviously Shen Yuan thinks it's a bird or something and doesn't plan to step outside because it's the middle of the night--until he spots a tiny figure stuck on the bird feeder.
Through the warm glow of the bird feeder, he sees a tiny figure wrapped up in the little dangly ribbons he'd tied on for decoration. It's a faerie. One of its wings is tightly bound, leaving the poor thing trapped and beating its free wing in an attempt to get unstuck.
Shen Yuan stands in his dark ass kitchen for a solid second, holding the cup of sinkwater he'd gotten and just staring at the faerie struggling and thrashing wildly. Immediately Shen Yuan finds himself rushing out into his backyard, fumbling with his phone's flashlight as he approaches the bird feeder.
When it notices him, the faerie lets out a hiss and thrashes around more--its long antennae that'd been drooping earlier perking up vigilantly. Shen Yuan just stood there, unsure what to do. The faerie clearly did not want him near, but the way it was struggling was just getting it tangled up more. Gritting his teeth Shen Yuan reached a hand forward.
The little shit immediately bites into his hand, its tiny sharp teeth mauling whatever fingers it can reach as Shen Yuan rushes to untangle it. It's scratching and biting and kicking and attacking Shen Yuan with every physical move it can. When Shen Yuan finally frees it he immediately releases his hold on it--which doesn't do much because now the faerie is dangling from his finger by its teeth.
"Why are you still biting me?! You're free, go, shoo"
Shen Yuan grumbles as he uses his other hand to pluck the faerie from his finger and holds it in the palm of his hand. The faerie immediately raises it's wings and gives them a test flutter. The one that'd been tangled was a bit less responsive, it'd gotten numb in the process. The faerie seemed like it was still going to jump off of Shen Yuan's hand so Shen Yuan immediately set it back down on the edge of the bird feeder.
The faerie puffed up immediately, the black hair that was longer than its body fluffed up like a cat as the Faerie hissed at Shen Yuan and . Shen Yuan was too tired to argue with this little creature though, instead turning around to enter his house and preferably bandage up his finger.
He watches the creature through the kitchen window as he bandages his finger up. The faerie, now aware of Shen Yuan's position in the kitchen due to Shen Yuan having turned on the kitchen lights, watches him in return. After a little while Shen Yuan watched the Faerie start cleaning its antennas with tiny little hands before picking up a sunflower seed from the bird feed and fluttering off.
All Shen Yuan can do is stand there bewildered, wondering what that was about. He'd seen little handprints and footprints about but he didn't actually expect to see a genuine faerie around. Shen Yuan opened his phone to look up the eating habitats of fae, deciding that since there was already one he might as well start leaving some stuff out for it too, the bird feed probably wasn't the best for it, right?
