If Lestat asked āwould you still love me if I was a wormā Louis would say no immediately, and wouldnāt even hesitate. It starts one of their biggest crashouts
If Daniel asked āwould you still love me if I was a wormā Armand would reveal the beautiful worm enclosure with sun lamps and fresh substrate he keeps prepared for such an occasion because You Never Know When Your Partner Might Transform Into A Worm
I had a vision
I need at least one episode of this season to be dedicated to Armand showcasing his Tomodachi Life island because I just know he has one and I know he gets mad at his miis when they donāt like the outfits he gives them and threatens to send them away.
Devilās Minion might already be canon at the time of the auction scene. We might be there. Thatās so surreal to think about.
Does Louis know? What does he think of it? Does he care? Heās currently not talking to either of them so theyāre probably perfect for each other in his mind.
And where is Daniel? Outside in the car with the window cracked open so he doesnāt suffocate? Does Louis know Armand keeps his companion in a hot car?

Thereās a certain subset of the fandom who really donāt like when you use the A word (abuse) to discuss Anne Riceās characters.
But they are abusive. Abuse is pretty much an entry level requirement for the gothic genre. Itās all about exploring taboo subjects but not necessarily imposing judgement on them and thatās precisely what she did. It doesnāt mean sheās a bad person. It doesnāt mean youāre a bad person if you like her characters. I actually wish passive exploration of abuse was more common than it is because it is fascinating.
In Anneās work, there is constant abuse, and that is what it is. That is the word weāve coined for dynamics like the ones she writes about. She just writes about them as if she were a passive observer, which is where half the appeal of the books comes from imo. Itās far more interesting to read about how characters respond to toxic dynamics rather than for author to hold your hand and tell you theyāre bad. Labelling it abuse isnāt passing judgment on the books or the characters. Itās just a clearer word for whatās going on.
We know Armand is being abused by Marius because his emotional outbursts (amongst other examples) are the most obvious kinds youād witness in a real child being abused as he was.
We know Gabrielle is abusing Lestat (neglect is abuse) because Lestat desperately fawns over her whenever sheās around to try and prevent her from leaving again. We also know because Anne had a real issue with how neglectful Gabi was and said so directly.
The characters give real life responses that abused people exhibit and the story only benefits from this. Anneās vampires are so heightened yet theyāre still so terribly human which is why theyāre so powerful. She doesnāt need to tell you itās bad because itās horror. Thatās sort of a given.
And there are obviously a thousand other examples. You can pick any character and analyse their actions and intentions and youāll find abuse. Louis and Claudia is in an underrated example. Thatās what the series is about. Ironically, the readers who insist this isnāt the case could probably benefit from Anne being a little more direct in her framing of it, but I donāt think she needed to be necessarily. I actually love when a book or other piece of media doesnāt directly call out whatever issues itās dealing with. Itās far more elegant to explore the impact this behaviour has on the characters rather than to just say it.
Now the racism we could do without. I think we can all agree on that. When I said I had an issue with her framing, I was mostly talking about all the colonial bullshit and how it impacts certain relationships. But there is the intent of the author and then there is the execution. I thought her execution was messy at times, but I wholeheartedly accept her work for what it is. I donāt want it to be different (again, other than the aforementioned colonial bullshit) and I donāt even think many of us disagree on the core ideals of the series. Weāre just using different terminology. You donāt have to call it abuse, but itās also not incorrect to do so.
Personally i wouldnāt mind iwtv/tvl ending the same way as riverdale and by that i mean ending with the four main characters in a polycule. I said what i said
The best part about Gabistat is that Gabrielle lowkey isn't even like that into it, she's just kind of ambivalent, which means Lestat is still being emotionally neglected by his mother that he is literally in an incestuous relationship with.
all versions of lestat (iwtv series, iwtv, tvl, queen of the damned, the book) always hootin and hollerin. thereās a pattern

Iāve see multiple people claim that Gabistat isnāt in incestuous in the book and if I see it one more time Iām going to go crazy.
The implication is that the show is exaggerating it or something because they only kiss a few times in the book. Guys⦠your eyes need to be open when you read. I think maybe you closed them and forgot.
Do you think incest is purely physical? The damage is done to Lestat not by the few kisses, but by the way Gabrielle views him and treats him. The boundaries between the two were blurred even when they were humans and it only gets worse when theyāre vampires. It is deeply emotional incest and itās egregious. A relationship doesnāt have to be explicitly sexual to be incestuous.
There are so many occasions in the book where Lestat yearns for his mother and for her support and he never fully gets it. Not in the way a child would need from their parent. Anne has an issue with framing abusive relationships as abusive, something the show has no issue with, but if a parent treats their child like Gabi treats Lestat, the child will respond in the ways Lestat does. There are clear signs of emotional abuse everywhere, you just have to know what they look like. He behaves like an abused child, just like Armand does, though it manifests very differently in them both.
To be clear, I love Gabrielle. Love her. But sheās so abusive itās crazy. You can like her and acknowledge what sheās done. Good rule of thumb for every character in the show/books.
something about eric bogosian who's been in the industry for over 40 years commenting on how singularly unique armand is as a character and praising assad for how well he knows him is making make me emotional actually wait
