We were never supposed to see Clark's wife. The film is about Clark and how he describes what happened that led him to her divorcing him and how he views her. It wouldn't matter if we saw her POV because Clark just wanted to go back to those simplier times when he had control and was able to "understand" her through his distorted lens
And thus we as an audience don't completely understand and so have to just go off of Clark and Mary's conversations (describing a dog to a person who has never seen one before)
She is not a person, she is a memory
big surprise: long holiday weekend has not reinvigorated my drive to work but has only left me yearning more for a life where I do not contribute to value for shareholders
Clark has got to be one of the best-written horror antagonists in recent memory, and the thing I love most about his character is how the film makes you understand his hardships, while at the same time not using them to justify, excuse, or downplay his actions.
You really get a clear idea of how his own hardships inspire the bad decisions he makes. And at the same time, it doesn't pull any punches in showing you the consequences of those decisions, which ultimately resulted in the creation of the Captain Clark entity.
Yes, I don't doubt that he was going through a very difficult time in his life, but it goes without saying that it doesn't give him the right to lash out at everyone and make their lives difficult. And it sure as hell didn't give him the right to take out his frustrations on his spouse or Mary!!!
That's why I love (to hate) him so much! He's not some run-of-the-mill mustache-twirling villain. He's understandable, relatable, and even sympathetic! And at the same time, the film is smart enough to not use those things that make him understandable, relatable, and sympathetic to excuse the harm and hurt he chose to inflict.
P.S. Mary's crashout on him was absolutely glorious to behold!
mother mary couldn’t save this lamb 🐑
I’d call this the savior complex

THE GOOD PLACE | 2.03, "Dance Dance Resolution"
Bonus:
Treat Hindutvadis as you treat Zionists. You have to make them feel unwelcome everywhere. Hindutvadis have consistently said that they dream of an India that is "pure" /"decolonized" i.e. a land only for Hindus. These are a lot of words for basically calling for extermination of every other culture, every other person who is not a Hindu.
No culture, no tradition no food habit no philosophy no connection to the land except that prescribed by the Brahminical tradition- that is the goal. They want to emulate that which Israel has done in Palestine- so basically every resource, material benefit is to be redirected to UC Hindus while everyone else is rendered a second class citizen. That is why so many of their talking points are the same as that of Zionists. You will hear them talking about "Hinduphobia" / genocide against Hindus/ reclaiming of ancestral lands. You have to nip these bullshit in the bud.
rip king, truly nobody was doing it for weird sci-fi and fantasy obsessed nerds like you 💔
Layering my Short Skirt, Long Jacket (CAKE) over my White Tee (CORPSE) and Blue Jeans (Lana Del Ray) Knee Socks (Arctic Monkeys) and Blue Suede Shoes (Elvis) and then putting on my Raspberry Beret (Prince) before I head out to the Bard Olympics where I am disqualified for performance-enhancing power buffs. On my way home I am cast as a sassy but cute side character in an early 2010's Disney Channel original series. I look fresh as hell
One episode into North of North and I love Siaja so much. Sick of these fake failgirls! If you're not getting drunk and cheating on your husband who almost killed you after his selfie session by kissing a guy who turns out to be your long lost father than what are you even doing. And also you might have seen a goddess but she also thinks you're a loser.

my baby doesn't belong to any white man
North of North is about a young Inuk woman who gets sick of her narcissistic husband's macho BS and moves in with her single mom. that... probably makes it sound like one of those shows, doesn't it.
well, maybe it is, maybe it's not (it's not). while Siaja (Anna Lambe, gorgeous, absolutely stunning) runs around trying to put her life back together and find herself (but first find and hold down a job and learn to coparent with her almost-ex - yeah of course she has a kid, she's 26!), there is life happening all over place in the tiny Nunavut town. Ice Cove is the kind of tight-knit community where your people won't leave you alone - but they also won't leave you alone, you know?
the show doesn't preach, but while you're laughing, it still quietly, casually shows you how colonialism doesn't really end.
how it lingers.
here's your white mayor. here's your language being slowly forgotten and now you need a translator to understand your elders. here's your town's lack of funding and what it gets it has to fight for (and how do you fight for it when there's another town (the Shelbyville to your Springfield, the Woodbury to your Stars Hollow) that even has a sushi place?). here's a French Canadian man who calls you Snocahontas. here's your mother's self-sabotaging old trauma.
*sigh* fine, there's also walrus dick baseball. if anything, watch it for the walrus dick baseball

Girl whose most frequent mistake is inaction voice: wow I keep making mistakes I better not do anything
A YA romantasy writer filed suit against another writer for copyright infringement, and as is always the case with these things, she padded her claims with delusionally spurious examples. The judge issued a 160-page ruling against the plaintiff where you can tell from the start how resentful they (or whatever clerk actually did the work) are to have been forced by duty to have read the works in question.
Dying for a dramatic reading of this

PLEASE watch How To Get To Heaven From Belfast. It's a murder mystery and comedy by the creator of Derry Girls. it's got intrigue. It's got three women entering their 40s struggling with grief, guilt, anxiety, ptsd, and keeping secrets. One of these women is a neurotic tv writer, one is a repressed catholic butch lesbian, and one is a mother of three boys desperately trying to handle her anger issues while keeping her manicures looking fantastic.
All of the one-off and side characters are bizarre, disconcerting, or just plain weird and I love all of them. The murder mystery is one of the only one's I haven't been able to figure out before the last episode. It's colorful, it's suspenseful, and it's some of the best mystery writing outside Knives Out. It's so great to see women written as messy and strange and loveable and flawed as the ones in this show. I highly recommend watching it because I would love to see more shows like this out in the world.
