Geological horror. You find a geode and crack it open and the crystal lining its walls is human blood that can't be genetically matched to anyone. You find a human skeleton but every one of the bones is made from rock, a rock that you know can't be whittled into those shapes. You find layers of clay and loam that sport ancient fossils at the top and the still-rotting corpses of modern animals at the bottom.

One of my favourite things in urban fantasy literature is when an author clearly likes the idea of wizard boarding school drama, but wants to avoid getting any Harry Potter stink on them and tries to accomplish that by simply bluntly inverting all the stuff they regard as problematic, and in so doing independently reinvents the X-Men.

as a former escape room host i highly recommend doing an escape room as a first date. its a great way to learn how ppl react under pressure and how well they collaborate with you right off the bat. also more than once ive seen people enter an escape room as a couple and exit broken up LOL its a fantastic litmus test

much and more to say about the alicent and helaena stuff this episode as well because it was outright perfection. the way she grabs helaena's face in her hands and tries to force her to drink the westeros premium abortion tea and the language she uses as she makes her case is so compelling that it has never been more apparent that helaena is the standard on which alicent holds her own redemption. the way she is trying to relate their experiences but it's falling short because helaena wants the baby regardless of the consequences but alicent cannot lose helaena because to lose helaena would be to lose any chance she has for herself and it's all warped together in a genuine love for her daughter even though her daughter doesn't trust her one bit in this moment and flat out declares that she's lying to her and she is she absolutely is if they got out they were not going back for jaehaera because alicent would have helaena and all alicent really wants is helaena with her because helaena remains the only truly good thing left in her life
