After some detective work, Nya figures out Kai has been dealing with some INTENSE chronic pain in his left arm post-merge. Words are had.
All the older ninja go into a huddle to try and figure out who has the debilitating back pain, and Arin awkwardly has to explain he dragged Ras's unconscious body across the desert. Lloyd very nearly starts crying.
After a bit of talking everyone realises the mild scratchy feeling in their throat is ALSO part of the pain thing. This one is a bit more difficult but eventually it's discovered that Wyldefire's constant yelling and roaring isn't good for her vocal chords. She is gobsmacked to find out this isn't normal.

Things calm down and everyone starts to get through the temple when suddenly everyone has an awful splitting headache and collapses- except Zane. Who once a day, has a VERY LOUD reminder of what his core purpose is and who his loved ones are ringing through his head just incase he develops amnesia. Words are had. again.
All the new ninja are baffled at their slightly achey joints. All the older ninja are jealous.
Heatwave is still healing. His breathing is less strained than before, and his wound is looking much better after Kaiβs stupid, begrudgingly-cool rock trick.Β
Speaking of Kai, heβs awake, sitting, watching the dragon core glow. It illuminates his face in the dark like a fire, but without the cool flickering. Itβs steady and uncomfortable, artificial, not a natural living, breathing thing like fire is.Β
βKai?β She rubs her eyes with her wrist until she sees sparks and colours behind her eyes and then squints when he doesnβt respond. Itβs weird that heβs awake. Weirder still that he didnβt respond to her. Maybe she missed it.Β
βKai?β she tries again.
When he doesnβt respond the second time either. She feels a bit grouchy. Offended. Annoyed. She knows heβs awake, she can see the light from the dragon cores reflecting off the eye, almost white. She stands, giving him the courtesy of grunting and grumbling so he knows sheβs awake and annoyed. She gives heatwave a pat and he responds with a low grumbling of acknowledgement back. At least someone isnβt ignoring her.Β
βKai.β She says. Nothing still. So she speaks louder and with more growl. βHey. KaiββΒ
It happens so fast she doesnβt see it.
One second heβs looking at the dragon core and the next his head has snapped to look at her, but itβs not Kai; His eyes are white.Β
His name catches in her throat. Theyβre empty. Theyβre too-wide. Thereβs no hint of pupils or anything else. There was no hint of feeling or a dragonβperson. The hairs on the back of her arms, her back, her neck all stand on end.Β
Then he blinks, and itβs gone.Β

He looks stupid. His hair is fluffy and soft. He looks soft. Thereβs no sign of what she had been so sure had been staring at her a moment before. It was so brief she couldnβt even be sure she had seen it.Β
βNevermind.β Wyldfyre forces her hands down and clenches them at her side. βIβm probably just sleepy,β is what she tells him, to make sure he knows sheβs still more dragon-ish than him. βWhy are you awake like a weirdo?βΒ
βOh, hah,β Kai says. βJust thinking.βΒ
Sheβs squinting at him. βYou do that?β
When Kai smiles. And itβs annoying, warm and soft. βSometimes.βΒ
βGross,β she says, crossing her arms.Β
βItβs quiet here,β Kai says. Itβs out-of-pocket. Itβs not really relevant. When he says it, he sounds different.
βWhatever,β Wyldfyre says, turning away. βIβm going back to sleep.βΒ

Iβve gotta be honest I hesitate to give writing advice anymore because whenever someone tells me your story needs to do xyz I immediately need to write a story breaking all of those rules they just spelled out because Iβm just Like That and who am I to further enable other people who are also Like That
The only writing advice that I think is evergreen is to just try stuff and see what works. Writing is such an personalized process, and the output is unique to the individual. It's so hard to make general practices that won't fall apart when applied to the reality of the diaspora of human experience and imagination.
Basically, first rule of writing is to be yourself and have fun. :>
Have a goofy idea? Just write it. Want to do something weird in your writing? Just write it. Have a thing you like, but you have a different way you would've written that scene? JUST. WRITE. IT.
Heck, write it scared. Write it bored. Write it sick. Write it looking out the window. Write it on your phone, write it on the page you were drawing on, write it on discord, who cares?
But you gotta just write it.
Sure, I've got dumb ideas sometimes. Other times, I realize partway through something that it's not working out. I've done rambling bits and monologues and environmental stuff and challenges and whatever.
But the thing is, I still write it.
It might be a crossover, or an idea based on someone's art, or heck, there have even been times I wrote a whole thing because I didn't like how another person wrote a character I loved!
You don't always have to share it with the world. You don't even have to share it with friends, family, or anyone.
But do it. See how it goes. See where the wave takes you. Maybe it'll end up with something you needed to write ("this was supposed to be a joke and now suddenly it's a metaphor for being LGBT"), or a new idea (I came up with a lot of ideas for a glitch as a form of horror while writing a silly crossover fic), or even just help to get the thought out.
Write. Doesn't matter if it starts out well or ends with a solid ending. What matters is that you get the idea on the page, because it's a lot easier to re-write an old idea if you actually have the old idea somewhere written down.

Thinking about how Grace casually gave Rocky a computer with basically All Human Knowledge.
How did the people of Erid feel when they got that? I mean, here's this thinking machine they apparently had no concept of, containing all this advanced knowledge of things they had no idea about like radiation and relativity...
My headcanon is that they're gonna feel like total assholes for not sending something similar back, so they end up using the laptop and Grace to make a human-compatible primer of Eridian science including the recipe for xenonite and their spaceship, then launch it towards Earth.
But the laptop didn't have just science texts; it had fiction and music and games. So they add a bunch of Eridian cultural stuff too.
So now there's this ocassional information exchange between planets lightyears away from each other that use astrophage to send probes full of the latest knowledge and news. By the time the civilizations advance enough to travel and contact, Earth and Erid are like old friends.

serpentine tend to drink out of bowls because the way snakes drink makes it hard for them to use cups (they need to stick their snoot in there)
