Hey everyone! You might have thought I stopped, but I did not. I have been busy and a bit unmotivated the last few days, but I have studied a bit of Runes! Elder Futhark to be precise.

Bro this happens so danged often I try to post a selfie at least once a month but every time i do at least one person gets vibe checked with the cognitive dissonance that I’m not billy shakes IRL

neither was 14 year old me but my old high school english teacher lived by fewer goddamn rules that I do
oh ya for all those wondering how to style like this/affordability - dont worry bout dressing like me, worry bout dressing like yourself if you don’t give a fuck
But if you want the renn faire vibe, honestly the answer is tunics and belts. All the belts you see in the pics were purchased at value village (thrifted) for like 5 bucks apiece and I just collect a lot of em. The tops were from bluenotes, walmart, and value village respectively. the only thing on the high side of pricing are my corsetry and cloaks, which tend to actually be purchased at renn faires.
What I’ve found helps in buying medieval aesthetic from everyday shops is to aim for a few core concepts such as colour scheme (i usually like earth or jewel tones) the silhouette you want, (hourglass vs. boxier looks, hem length) and materials you like (leather additions will ground the look and give you a chance to add pockets to your belts) when shopping instead of actively thinking “i want to dress like this”
cuz I find a lot of folks who go with the latter half of the thought process end up buying expensive, pre-made aesthetic wear that while costs more money than I usually spend, look like a cheaper look bc they’re manufactured for an aesthetic

usually there’s a standard length of roughly 3.5-4 feet, which works perfectly fine on me as a full length cloak because I’m barely 5′2, i have this picture from a renn faire i’ve boothed at that show the length of my usual cloaks more clearly

im very grateful for the lessons in photography i was taught in stop motion class because just now they made it possible to photograph the stars with my phone in spite of the camera usually not detecting the light of stars because theyre so dim,,,, enjoy these shiny motherfuckers
ok so if everythings normal, your phone camera should have a manual mode (sometimes called pro mode). in it, change the settings of the shutter lag to 20 seconds, then put the phone down on some stable, plane surface and press the photo button (usually when using your camera, the volume buttons can be used as photo button) and let the phone still for the whole 20 seconds.
(basically the problem with most cameras is that they dont have a very good light sensitivity in the dark, however that doesnt mean they cant detect it at all. the longer the shutter is open, the more light your camera takes in and the more burnt/light your pic will be, so in (literally) dark situations, make the shutter lag longer to get all that light you need! also i said 20 seconds but really you can make it shorter or longer depending on what kinda stuff you want for your stars)

Additionally, adjust your ISO to the highest number (mimics the film used for very low light and low speed images)
And set your shutter speed to the longest time possible (on my phone it’s 10 seconds).
Leave your focus settings on Auto, and if your phone camera has a timer option, turn that on (five seconds is generally enough).
Plan your shot first, then find a place to set your phone down so you can get the image you want. The less light pollution, the better; you’ll pick up FAR more stars in your picture.
Once you know what you want to shoot, tap your screen to “focus” it, then hit the button to take the picture, set your phone down, and back away from the “tripod”. Don’t touch your phone for a good 15 seconds, just to be sure.
You will not be disappointed in the results, let me assure you.

Kinda started a tradition for myself of making my first Inktober piece of the year the October month page for my bullet journal.
The picture above is the one I made last year. I usually use that kind of calligraphy for my month pages but this time I decided to change things up and learn gothic calligraphy as well. Also it goes with the spoopy theme 🕸🕷🎃👻🦇
