SO!
I finally finished cleaning up the transcript I took of the Migraine World Summit episode on sleep and migraine
It's really interesting as a migraineur, but it also has a lot of info on sleep issues in general, which I thought could be useful to people struggling with that, so I've tagged those in too
They discuss the use of melatonin here, which is REALLY interesting:
"Melatonin is not a sleep supplement, it’s for helping regulate the sleep/wake cycle and for shifting the body in time to sleep at more appropriate or the times that you wanna sleep,
It’s a phase shifter, its not a sleep- it’s not putting you to sleep, but melatonin strategically can be used to help regulate [sleep]"
Not something I knew before, and it's also deactivated by light.
More under the cut - again, I transcribed this as I listened to the ep, some parts that might not make sense aer as they were spoken. I've formatted it to be easier to read in some places, but if bits sound strange, that's why
non 24 stuff
im attempting entrainment for the first time in maybe a year and i made a little pros/cons list in my notes app and wow this bleak. im gonna cry it feels like i could choose entrainment if it actually worked long term, even with all the fuck ass side effects because it would give me some stability which is desperately needed. BUT IT DOESNT WORK LONG TERM 😭 either way the biggest Real Life thing is my employability is fucked
but if you wanna read about my dilemma then it's under the cut
Ease you whiskers, rest your paws, pies, and puddings fill the stores. Sweetly dream the night away till sunshine brings another day.

the power of self-talk in the fight against self-sabotage (for binge-eaters and ppl who have never been skinny🫶)
disclaimer: this is not proana. this is for people who struggle with binge eating as a form of self-sabotage, emotional comfort, self harm, etc. overeating can cause just as much harm physically and mentally as undereating. please be safe. now, on with the show!
weight loss, but specifically extreme weight loss, equals change. change equals discomfort, so people tend to subconsciously avoid change. this is why starting to see progress on the scale or your body can trigger the urge to self-sabotage that progress and binge eat.
for people who have been big their whole lives, that fear is heightened by the fact that being thin is completely uncharted territory. by following through, youre entering a new world that youve never navigated before. your brain might get scared, say its much too big a mountain to climb, and tell you to give up. its easier to say fuck it because for most people, unhappiness is a comfort zone. if youre used to hating your body and wanting it to change, then actually *changing* it poses a very serious threat to your comfort and the lifestyle youre used to.
questions like: "what if i reach my goal and im still unhappy/unattractive?" "what if i dont look like myself?" "what if i reach my goal, cant sustain it, and then i gain it all back and humiliate myself?" can all make someone feel anxious about succeeding in their weight loss journey. and for people with overeating issues, this is a big trigger for binge episodes.
so how do you combat this instinct to self sabotage? well, im not a psychologist so take this with a grain of salt, but for me it helps to soothe these subconscious fears and train the brain to fight these urges. self-talk and thought-correction play a HUGE role in rewiring the pathways in your brain that lead you to bingeing. truly, practice and consistency are the only things that are going to cause a big change, so stick with it !
correcting problematic thoughts *immediately* when they form is key to preventing problematic behavior in the future, and that starts with being able to identify those thoughts. the moment you catch yourself thinking about food, cut yourself off with a correction. maybe even think about food on purpose a few times to practice recognizing and correcting it.
for example, if you just ate an hour ago, chances are youre not actually hungry yet. tell yourself that as soon as you realize youre thinking about food. i like to tell myself "i dont need to eat, and im not gonna sabotage myself by eating that." by acknowledging it and calling it what it is--literally an attack, by my brain, on my own progress--i immediately attach a sense of accountability to the actions that follow. there's no deniability. its no longer a passive choice. theres no mindless eating or "i wasnt thinking about it." if i eat after acknowledging the act of eating as self-sabotage, then that is me *actively* choosing self-sabotage over self-control. accountability alone can change a lot if you let it.
what i tell myself changes depending on the situation, but i find that repeating some of these phrases throughout the day helps to fight urges in general, and certain ones help for specific cravings and situations.
below are some examples of things i tell myself that have helped me fight the urge to self sabotage. they dont all have to be true when you first say them, the point is training your brain to think a certain way. it may feel unnatural at first, but the more you say them the more natural it becomes, until eventually it becomes apart of the way you actually think and you dont have to work so hard at it. remember: consistency. is. key.
okay ill stop blabbing! here:
•i allow myself to be thin.
•i accept the change that comes with losing weight.
•i am ready to see myself differently and cope with any complicated feelings that may come with it.
•i am prepared for my body to change.
•i will deal with my wardrobe when the time comes, and im not afraid of dressing differently for my new body.
•i will adjust to my new dietary needs and appetite when i reach my goal weight. i will not always be hungry; eating less will be my new normal, and i will be okay.
•i am not afraid of being hungry.
•food does not comfort me, nor does it solve my problems or make me feel better.
•i am ready to navigate a life that looks different to the one im living now.
•i am not afraid of reaching my goal. if i do feel afraid, i am confident in my ability to work through difficult feelings and continue towards my goal.
•im not going to sabotage myself by eating that.
•i accept that people will perceive me differently, and i am ready to navigate that change.
•i am prepared to receive comments about my weight loss.
•i am not afraid of getting what i want.
•i believe i deserve what i want, and im dedicated to working towards getting it.
•i am capable of adapting to new routines and habits.
•fear is not a reason to give up, and i will continue to work even if the possibility of change makes me uneasy.
•i am prepared to face the future, even though i do not know what it looks like.
•i allow myself to make mistakes, and i will not use them as an excuse to quit.
•my long-term satisfaction is more important than what i want in this moment.
•i am in control of my actions and i am capable of resisting the urge to binge.
•i allow myself to have the body i desire.
•i allow myself to change.
•i allow my life to look different and i am not afraid to see a new person in the mirror.
•i am excited to reach my goal, and prepared to navigate any changes that come with it.
•i am ready to meet and introduce others to the new me.

Head full of lead.
This is how I feel - esp when she sinks to the bottom of the tank and her head clunks.
I am awaaaake. It is 3:13am and I am awaaaake. How can my body and face switch off when my insides are like 'no'?? I want to shut down in the face, it literally aches and strains to be awake but I can't control it :(
“Why are you up this early” no why am I up this late
“Why are you awake already” why am I awake still
bold of you to assume I slept
ive been doing a lot of youtube recipe binging lately so i was recommended this video and i was like fuck it diet soup why not
and it sounded pretty tasty so after the vid i scrolled down to see what people thought of it, and i just really need to share with you all what the comment section is like
and for the one that broke me:
I laughed so hard I gave myself an actual headache oml
i laughed so hard at this comment
Okay, but no matter how much you laugh at whatever comment, we can’t ignore a lot of fucked up stuff being glossed over in this post:
The video is saying that you will lose 15 pounds in 7 days. Even disregarding the fact that honestly no intentional weight loss is healthy, that is over two pounds lost every day. During one of the worst times of my disordered eating, right before high school, I lost 20 pounds in two weeks. That was barely over one pound a day, and not only was that in TWO weeks instead of one, but to do so I had to exercise for 2 and a half hours every day and barely eat any food. Even my mom became concerned, and she is all for diet culture with her internalized fatphobia. Losing fifteen pounds in a WEEK is incredibly dangerous and not in any way healthy unless you’re asking someone who makes more money the more you abuse your body into thinness.
YouTube has or had been recommending this video to people—this video that encourages diet culture, fatphobia, eating disorders, and a literal dangerous weight loss plan. Multiple times in the post people said the video had been recommended by YouTube’s algorithm.
All of the weight lost has literally just been shitted out. This is no different than those detox teas that give you diarrhea and say “See? You lost weight! Because you shit so much! That’ll be $20.”
People are doing anything they can to lose weight, even just because of a weight gain of TEN POUNDS during a PANDEMIC. Like you’re obsessing over ten pounds when you could have fucking died and you’ve been under so much stress and trauma??
Not only are people doing whatever they can to lose just a few pounds, even resorting to dangerous diets, but none of these comments that were screenshot show any regret. These people were happy that shitting their brains out for three days caused them to lose a little weight. Imagine people 150 years ago hearing people in current day say they were happy to have diarrhea that caused them to become smaller when one of the biggest dangers during that era was dysentery (diarrhea) and starvation. They would be shocked to hear people willingly starve and give themselves diarrhea today for an oppressive beauty standard.
The reason why these people were happy about dangerously losing a few pounds? It’s because this world oppresses fat people so much that everyone is desperate to avoid enduring that oppression too as much as possible. Thin people who diet want to keep their thin privilege because they see how fat people are treated, how they themselves treat fat people, and they don’t want to face that oppression too. The world hates fat bodies to the point that there is nothing too extreme to even just obtain temporary thinness—and that’s what it is. Temporary. Because the science is in and it has been saying for decades that long term permanent weight loss is near nonexistent. You are going to chase an impossible thin body your entire life if your goal is to intentionally lose weight. A surgery to mutilate your digestive organs or implant a pipe into your stomach to turn it into a faucet and give you Bulimia 2.0? Doesn’t work. The approved medical device to screw your jaw shut so that you can’t eat? Doesn’t work. Any diet? Doesn’t work. Any weight loss product? Doesn’t work. The newest diet fad of 2024 that “Actually works this time!” and promises you all of your biased dreams? Does. Not. Work. Within 3-5 years, that weight you lost knocks on your front door again. And all of the attempts to intentionally lose weight end up ruining your physical, mental, and psychological health in the meantime.
Not even this post addresses anywhere how fucked up the video, the comments, and the whole situation are. Instead, this is presented as a funny laugh, and all of the sharing around of this post has just normalized fatphobia and diet culture further.
Please don’t look at posts like this and think this is normal or healthy. Please actually think about what you’re laughing at.
