Tim Drake analysis

I think Tim’s relationship with Bruce is fundamentally different from that of Dick, Jason, and Damian. With them they became Robin because Bruce adopted them/took them in. They were, first and foremost, Bruce’s kids. Tim became Robin because he saw the necessity. He was Batman’s protégé long before he was adopted. His relationship with Bruce was built on the mentor/student dynamic rather than father/son. This really affected his relationship with Bruce, the other bats, and his time as Robin. Because Bruce wasn’t his father their working relationship was easier, personal feelings were easier to compartmentalize, and Tim wasn’t quite as emotionally dependent on Bruce’s opinion of him. He was insecure about his place as a bat and as Robin, but he didn’t feel like his father didn’t love him every time he got pissed. Bruce adopted him when his parents died, but even with that change the foundation of their relationship was still mentor/student. Not to mention that despite Tim’s hero worship of Batman he was uniquely aware of his flaws. He understood that Bruce was walking a fine line between hero and villain better than any of the other Robins. He understood why Gotham needed Batman to protect her citizens from the darkness, but he also understood that Batman needed the light of Robin to keep himself from being consumed by it. For Dick and Jason it was about being a hero, for Damian it was living up to his father’s legacy. But for Tim it was about Robin, and what Robin represents. The others could use another identity to do what they wanted. Dick moved on, Jason moved on, Damian is Robin only in name. Tim, as Red Robin, is both clinging to Robin, and becoming more and more like Batman. I can’t imagine Tim as a hero other than Robin, Red Robin, or Batman. He is one of the only people who understands the depth of the symbols, and I can’t see him walking away from them.

You get it! Tim's relationship with Bruce was always uniquely solid and stable compared to the rest of the boys' relationship with Bruce. Not only did they have more of a mentor/student relationship, Tim was often emphasized as saving Batman way more. I think that fundamentally changes the foundations of their relationship. With the other boys, Batman saved Robin. But for Tim, Robin saved Batman. And even after he is no longer Robin and is instead Red Robin, that's still true. Tim will always have Bruce's back whenever he needs it. I feel like with the other boys, the parental relationship comes before the partnership, but for Tim and Bruce I do feel like the partnership comes first. It explains a lot about why Bruce trusted Tim with a lot of things such as running Wayne Enterprises. I think in a lot of ways, Bruce was able to trust Tim more because Tim isn't his son and therefore not fully his responsibility (not to mention that both Bruce and Tim seem allergic to familial relationships so having a solid partnership is pretty easy for them).

I love how targeted each of these accusations are towards both Steven's fears and resentments. You can really feel how the corrupted fusion is targeting each of his deepest problems in order to force him to not fight back.

Honestly, I feel like these made up accusations only work on Steven because he hasn't truly forgiven many people. He's just shoved it away in order to get the most peaceful outcome that benefits everyone.

and now the corrupted fusion is trying to split him and Jasper by making him feel guilty and resentful.
