Snippet Someday
Thank you @ecofutural @starspray @ffigwit and @balrogballs for tagging me! Here's another snippet from my Aredhel fic, which continues to grow and grow and might win the award for being the longest one in this series (so far):
“My lady.” One of the marchwardens, Mablung, enters the room and bows. “Forgive the interruption, but Eöl has arrived.” “I see.” Melian stands. “I shall find my husband to greet him then.” The nightingales flee after their lady. Írissë rises to leave, but before she can take a step a flash of black catches her eye. She stops. Turns. There, on the windowsill, sits a crow. Red-black eyes stare into hers. Írissë approaches it. “My lord,” she says, “What is it you wish for me to do?” The crow tilts its head down, gesturing to the world outside the window. Írissë follows its direction. Far down below, coming up a winding garden path to where Melian and Thingol wait, is a newcomer: an elf with hair as grey as Thingol’s dressed in pitch-black armour. He stops and lifts his head as though he can feel Írissë’s gaze upon him. Despite the distance between them their eyes met, and all of Menegroth seems to shudder. He breaks the moment first, turning his eyes away, and continuing to walk. Írissë watches until she can no longer see him. The crow lets out a cry, piercing her heart, before it too leaves her. That, Írissë guesses, must be Eöl. That is the reason her lord wants her in Doriath.
