Lol I wonder what George told Eric Idle. I don't know if you have seen their movie "All You Need Is Cash", where they parody the Beatles. "Dirk" is Paul and "Nasty" is John, and a reporter says something like "things got so bad in the group that Dirk and Nasty got married. Not to each other, of course!
Hehe, yes I've seen it! George and Eric (who plays both Paul and the reporter) were very close. I don't doubt he told him quite a few things about John and Paul.
Thinking about the following excerpt from this article:
Idle has also noted that his bond with Harrison was compounded by their shared status within their respective groups. “It occurred to me later that we both played similar roles inside our groups with big power blocks,” Idle told Rolling Stone. “Once I was moaning a little bit on [Life of] Brian, saying, ‘It was hard to get onscreen with Michael Palin and John Cleese.’ He said, ‘Well, imagine what it’s like trying to get studio time with Lennon and McCartney.’ I said, ‘All right. Absolutely. Got it. OK. Check. I’ll shut up now.’ Then it occurred to me that yes, in fact, we were slightly the outsiders, playing similar roles in our groups.”
And then I remember the slight obsession (or would it be "affection", according to Graham Chapman's autobiography) that John Cleese had for Michael Palin, something that even became a joke among the rest of the group.
All of this makes this joke even better and I can just imagine him and George Harrison cleanse their souls with this dig. Absolutely love my bitches 💖🙏

paul mccartney can only write about four things:
getting pussy
getting high
a woman with depression he just made up out of nowhere and it has nothing to do with him or his internal life.
john lennon
You ever hear a song a thousand times and don’t realize what’s actually being said until the 1,001st time?
“You’re holding me down, turning me ‘round, and filling me up with your rules”
Paul literally said I’m a power bottom and I didn’t realize it until now
Tbh, I always thought this song was made from John's perspective:
He was the one who hated school and thought his teachers weren't cool;
He was the one who used to be the angry teddy boy. And the one who was married;
But most important: everyone knows now how controlling Paul could be.
So yeah, I think Paul is saying John WAS THE POWER BOTTOM in this song.

I always enjoy learning new things about Paul and Brian’s relationship. I recently came across a photo of 12 images Paul hand drew and annotated to be used as the set designs for Brian's Saville Theatre. One of these was used for the Four Tops first ever UK performance at the venue during November of 1966.
In preparation for the upcoming performance, Brian needed appropriate backdrops for the Theatre. He commissioned Paul to come up with ideas for the stage designs. Paul presented the designs to Brian and John Lyndon, the Director of Productions at the Saville and one of the images was used as the backdrop.
Annotations of each image from Designer Paul below!

Two frustrated theatre Kids, pretty much artsy, queer and in love with a short-sighted teddy boy have met each other and said:
"Yeah, we're going to rule the biggest band in the world."
now they're frightened of leaving it
everyone's weaving it
Ugh I was blissfully unaware of this podcast until now&wish I haven't heard it. I find Paul critics always so disingenuous, pretending it's all just 'opinion'. Yet, Imagine's been on every must-listen list for 40 years, while Paul has said he ignored Ram for years due to the stink of failure it seemed to carry. Gee I wonder which part of this has been just harmless opinion. They're flogging a horse so buried dead it's in China at this point.
very much agreed. i don’t fault people for their individual preferences. we all have them and they’re perfectly valid.
but to call ram – ram, the album paul made after basically dragging himself out of his deep, deep depression after the beatles split and the ensuing juristic and emotional battles, with the help of linda and the help of his music – “soulless” and “vacuous” as one of the hosts of something about the beatles did is, to me, very revealing.
it’s not about preferences at this point, it’s about still buying into the completely outdated and shallow john vs paul narrative of the 70s that, very apparently, still has its ugly claws sunk into some people nowadays.
PREACH
ALLLLLLL of this.
OK, I try not to rant online, but I can’t be quiet about this anymore, because it’s AN ISSUE and it needs to be addressed! The men who perpetuate this kind of garbage are SO DEFENSIVE about it that it’s almost impossible to even START the conversation, but I’ll give it a try.
I’ve seen a lot of chatter about people “fetishizing” the love between Lennon-McCartney but what I find much more vile and perverse is when people fetishize John and Paul hating each other. Especially John hating Paul, and (supposedly) ‘rejecting’ Paul and ‘bullying’ Paul, because this is what Paul deserves for being so pretty and looking like a girl. The narrative is that Paul is a bitch and John is a real man (i.e. aggressive, mean and super-straight) and therefore Paul’s music is crap because John said so after they broke up and John couldn’t possibly have ulterior motives for his bone-deep, wounded displays of overcompensation. Clearly John is a sober, unbiased critic of Paul McCartney, right?
Here are some words I commonly hear to describe Paul:
Bossy
Controlling
Cold
Manipulative
Calculated
Vain
Mom
Wife
Girlfriend
Diva
Lightweight
Is anyone seriously going to argue that there is not a sexist bias against Paul? Paul is a complex man of enormous fortitude and a wide, varied, remarkable artistic history. Yet he’s STILL commonly reduced to “the cute one.” Jesus, is there really a woman on earth who doesn’t see that for what it is?
People are OUTRAGED that Paul would use his creative energy and resources to lead the group in a time of crisis. People are OUTRAGED that Paul would demand everyone show up and work hard. I mean who does Paul think he is? He should know his place!
The unhinged desire of the (overwhelmingly straight male) heteronormative media to fit John and Paul into a Man/Woman, Top/Bottom paradigm is SO GROSS and inappropriate, on so many levels. EVERYTHING is framed as a battle for dominance. But John and Paul were partners, friends, collaborators. It was a marriage, not a fucking porno. Stop pretending it was a hate-filled, 24/7 wrestling match just so you can stamp out the uncomfortable feelings that arise in those moments when you realize that these guys were actually in love with each other.
Paul deserves a fucking MEDAL from Beatles fans for stepping up and assuming the responsibility and burden of leading the group in the final years. Without Paul there would be no Let it Be and no Abbey Road. JOHN LITERALLY SAID SO. Paul almost destroyed himself to make those albums happen. And yes, of course he benefitted from them also! So what? Where is the fucking bar here? Paul is only supposed to act in a way that directly benefits John and no one else? WTF are we talking about?!
So I’ll say it. On behalf of, you know, the ENTIRE WORLD (or anyone who likes the last 3-4 Beatle albums): THANKS PAUL!
She's So Heavy
(It's late and this had so much sense in my mind... Feel free to give your interpretation)
#this is exactly what I’ve always thought about this song#if he addressed this to Yoko why the anguish and desperation of wanting someone you can’t have??#he already had her#ergo he was talking about someone else#I mean…👀#one of his most sus songs fr#the beatles#mclennon#john lennon#paul mccarntey#yoko ono
This is exactly the meaning I had in my mind, thank you so much to explain it so well

Doing research on the Beatles’ North American tours and came across an interview with photographer Allan DeLay who recalls being fascinated by Paul’s beauty during those days:

I'm just trying to prove a point here...
(And I didn't even try to point it out how Félix, the exquisite and flirty Englishboy in Saltburn is just a millennial version of sassy Paul's ebullience in 67's Summer of Love. Maybe in another post)
