full moon got my feeling insecure about my looks😨😨😞
Week 5 out of surgery update: I'm doing well. Finally have my appointment with the orthopedic specialist here in PA this week. Should get a glimpse of the timeline to shift back to putting weight on the foot; I'm looking forward to not being stuck in the bed or chair so much and relying on the hubs and kid to help me get down to the kitchen.
I have learned so much about getting around with mobility devices in a world built for people who have two useable ankles. Doctor's offices without handicap doors or step ups to get inside. Those bumpy parts of ramps that make the scooter almost fall over (I know what they're for, but damn they're hard to navigate). Bathrooms that have nothing to hold onto to sit down. Rugs so thick the wheels won't roll on them. I am in awe and have a high respect now for people who have to do this all the time. How are they not angry all the time?
My good leg/ankle is getting a work out. I've gotten much better at standing up using just it and handholds. Getting out of deep chairs/sofas is still a real challenge but thank God I can use the knee on my bad leg to balance. It's all exhausting. Leaving the house and getting in the car take so many spoons.
But I'm definitely getting better. My surgical scars are closed up and the swelling has gone down. Most of the discomfort is from the scar pulling occasionally (or just suddenly tingling which my PCP doc says is the nerves resetting) or from wearing the damn boot (it rubs and weighs a ton). I'm looking forward to my trip to see my daughter in Minneapolis in October as a milestone; here's hoping I'll be able to walk with the boot by then!
