I remember that day where everything changed.
Brooklyn, New York 6/4/19
I took you to New York, something you always wanted to do.
We wore matching twenty one pilots shirts because not only were we in New York because it was your dream, but we also had tickets to see twenty one pilots that day.
I had the ring on me the entire time. As we walked the streets, taking in all the views and making some stops for snacks, I couldn’t wait until the entire plan unfolded.
What you didn’t know is that I crafted this whole plan on my way back from visiting my family in South Carolina in January of 2019.
I would message my three closest friends in a group chat, telling them that tomorrow is the day. I didn’t want to sleep, I just wanted to be there already.
So the time comes, we get in the arena. I try and sneakily put the ring in a bucket for security. Our matching twenty one pilots belts made the sensors go off. So while she’s getting the wand over her belt I snuck the ring back in.
We go to the merch tables and I just remember how happy I was to even be here with you. I see the one thing that I couldn’t take my eyes off of, besides you of course. (The ned hoodie)
So we finish buying all the merch we wanted, making multiple trips from our seats because we wanted something else. I remember getting up to go get the flag and feeling in every bone of my body the love I have for you. Smiling as I brought the flag back and placed it over you to surprise you. It didn’t work out too well because you turned around before I could. 😂
So we sat there in our seats patiently waiting for the show to start. The opener came on and I could feel my emotions rising. All I wanted was to hear Tyler Joseph’s voice start singing.
Well the time came, we could see a car on fire behind a curtain and we know something was about to go down.
All of a sudden the curtain falls, josh dun comes out on stage lighting the way with his torch. The crowd is going crazy. He sits on his drums and here comes Tyler and the jumpsuit intro and everyone is standing and jumping and excited.
I look over and see the tears in your eyes and know there are tears in mine. It was such a beautiful moment.
I sang every song waiting for my moment. Loving every second but getting nervous with every passing song.
These drunk dudes spilt there beer in front of our feet and ruined my plans to propose on one knee. I was devastated.
But then I heard it “I’ll keep on trying...”
That night flashed back in my head. Listening to cut my lip in your car having our first kiss. The moment plays in my mind all the time.
I looked over and the tears were streaming down your face. I pulled the rose box out of my pocket. I opened it and showed you the ring.
“Will you marry me” was all I could say through the tears.
You nodded and we fumbled to put the ring on, but once it was on...
You were in my arms for the rest of the song. I held you as close as I could. You were officially my fiancé and nothing was going to happen to you.
We finished the concert and left in a happy daze. We drove back home and since that day, you have truly made my love for you grow even more.
