on sunday october 21st 2018 - the department of health and human services seeks to push for a legal definition for gender that would, in their efforts, make the legal identification at birth of your gender immutable and unchangeable, eliminating the federal recognition of gender identity for millions of transgender americans. [1] along with this statement, DHH expressed that those wishing to prove their identity must seek genetic testing.

DHH wants to add administrative rigidity to identifiers at the federal level, identifiers by the way that are already accessible to anyone who asks for your birth certificate, ID and other legal documents. 

it’s important to point out that most of these people you will be showing your identification to may not be trained medical professionals tasked with your reproductive and sexual health and aren’t overseeing your transition (pending you are trans/seeking professional assistance with transitioning). it’s equally as important to mention that profiling based on gender identity, ethnicity and orientation usually results in violence, a lack of service to your individual right to employment and safety, housing, education and so forth. 

in the end, the rights of trans people and the rights of vast other groups of people in the united states are dwindling as this administration continues to be in power, which is why it’s important to vote in these midterms.
