hero!reader... really hates their job.
the heavy expectations, the world on their shoulders, the lives of friends, foe, and strange alike all at the mercy of their ability to survive. regardless of if they've had one journey, two, or perhaps even three... and no matter the contents of those quests, they find themselves truly despising it.
because they were never meant to be the hero. that destiny had been intended to for Link.
and yet they find themself in the thick of it.
perhaps because the Link of their time is dead, or perhaps he found a way to abandon fate itself. both are pretty damn angsty.
in the case of death, it would be devastating. the world itself scrambling to fix this... misstep in fate.
in the case of abandoning fate itself... now that is something different. how exactly he'd do that... uh, who knows. but if the Link of this time found a way, he'd essentially be leaving everyone behind, abandoning the world itself, and shoving everything to someone completely unprepared.
even worse if he was close with hero!reader.
they had admired, perhaps even loved, Link. the two had been close, whether that be as friends or more, who knows. but then... Link just disappears. leaves. no foreword. no afterward. no letter. no note. nothing. just up and abandoned them. left them with his heavy responsibility, one they had not been prepared for.
so, they resent Link. just a bit. more than a bit.
and then comes along an entire group of Link.
now, they don't want to put the crimes of one person onto another, but hero!reader can't deny the way their chest tightens, the way they can't meet any of their eyes for longer than a moment. they way Legend's jabs sting a bit more. the way Wind's childishness makes them forlorn for something long gone. the way Hyrule's gentleness makes them want to puke.
all of them find ways to remind hero!reader of the Link that they knew. the one that had left them to a fate more tragic than fate.
just some... thoughts i had. i haven't written anything for this side of the fandom yet, soooo... yahoo
