a big element of my strong preference on this front is that i spent years doing forum and chat roleplay before i played my first ttrpg--i have done my time in the blorbo mines, and i know what kind of character i like to create and play as already; not to invert the last interlocutor's silly point, because i absolutely do recognize the appeal of making your custom blorbo in a WoD game or what have you, but personally if i'm going to the trouble of playing a TTRPG i want to be thrown some curveballs! i want to be pushed outside my comfort zone, to be handed something strange and have to think 'so what shall i make of this?' to use my favourite pbtaism, i want to Play To Find Out!
