I grew up reading Calvin & Hobbes, and one of my favorite running jokes was the snowmen that Calvin would build.

A big reason why I think I became a marxist is bc I read A LOT of Calvin & Hobbes and Bill Watterson really went out of his way to lay the groundwork for teaching people critical analysis. Like take this panel for example:

Dragons are fireless until they undergo the Hroom, the traditional draconic ceremony where a fledgling dragon will go out into the world and make a bargain with a spirit of elemental fire to live in their soul in a state of mutual symbiosis. The spirit receives shelter and nourishment, while the dragon receives a source of elemental fire, which it can only now use to defend itself.

Look allos, you know the flinch you get when you contemplate shipping the cannon lesbian with a man, or suggest the 2 dudes from that gay hockey show just need to find the right girls? THAT is what you should be feeling, for exactly the same reasons, when you start shipping an aro or ace character. That same 'its not right to obliterate an identity to make a more easily smushable interchangeable Barbie doll out of the character'. Can aros date?! Sure! Can Aces have sex?! Absolutely! in exactly the same ways for a lot of the same reasons as Gay men and lesbians can enter into relationships with members of the opposite and non-desired gender. And there is story in that, in what bits they need from it, and what bits they endure and how those balance out, and the tension and contradictions in that!
