Ok but does anyone find it a little disappointing that we’re getting graphic and full clips of straight sex but not any of the gay sex in the gay sex show about gay people?? Airing during pride month no less???
apparently amc was weirdly strict with it and they had to sneak the bellboy into the elevator scene in episode 1?? this is more of a case of exec censorship than writer censorship i think ://

i have Mixed Feelings about iwtv s3 rn. mixed with a capital M. i did not know what mixed feelings meant until watching this series istg. because i do absolutely adore it, it’s brilliantly made and beautifully shot and im rewatching and obsessing over every episode, but somehow i’m also totally disappointed by it compared to the first two seasons
(a LOT more under the cut)
the biggest change is obviously the total format shift, how it’s gone from a straightforward period piece sandwiched by present day sections into a totally mental non-linear palooza. i understand totally WHY they made that change, because louis and lestat are very different characters and there ought to be some sort of tonal shift to reflect their totally different narration styles. i just think it’s not being done very well.
did they really have to go so all out with it? if this season was structured more like the first two, with a level of campier narration and tonal change but to THIS level, would anyone actually be complaining? i understand the reasoning behind making it so crazily paced and non-linear but it’s just not as strong as seasons 1 and 2.
the individual scenes are all still absolutely incredible, but the show as a whole is kind of sucking. it feels so much smaller than the first two seasons, probably because nothing feels in-depth. and yes that’s very lestat but it’s not very good. all of the characters feel lestat-ified, simplified to their most basic level. daniel has gone from a very clever, insightful journalist and a brilliant vehicle for the story into, effectively, a dumb, prying hack? i get that it’s reflecting how much his turning has changed him but they could have done it much more elegantly. gabrielle has gone from a flawed but nuanced character with a complicated relationship with her gender into a loud annoying sex pest. how come the male abusers get to have nuance and be sympathetic (cough lestat cough) but the female ones don’t? on that note the super strong parallels between lestat and claudia’s sexual assault this episode were kind of icky, it felt like they were totally overshadowing her trauma in favour of lestat’s and also reducing the impact of both, the horrifying shit with lestat and magnus deserved to be its own scene, not intercut with louis’ revenge on bruce. and nicki is basically just a footnote now, just the sad dead boyfriend from lestat’s backstory rather than a legitimate character, because how cut down he is from the books.
for the record i’m not just upset that they’re making changes from the books— i am by no means a purist to them— i’m upset that they’re making changes for the worse. everything they changed in seasons 1 and 2 was well thought out and justified, because i didn’t give a shit about book louis’ story and it kind of sucked. how much has been cut back for the show in this season is upsetting me, because i DO give a shit about nicki and gabrielle and they’re getting steamrolled over in favour of more lestat singing and shouting and thrusting sequences wowwwww just what we wanted!
it’s probably not helping that lestat is my least favourite character of the main cast by FAR in the show; i still like him, but louis, claudia, armand and daniel are way more compelling to me. i’m sure if if i was a huge lestat fan i’d feel differently, and all my friends who are huge lestat fans seem to be liking it a lot more than me so good for them!
and again, for the record, i do not hate the show at all, i still love it and think it’s brilliant, i just have very very mixed feelings about it as well. i love how they’re teasing armand so far, i think the stuff with the band is all great, every scene with louis in it is just as brilliant as the first 2 seasons and jacob anderson is just as brilliant of an actor, the way they handled magnus in this episode was both funny and absolutely horrifying and i will obviously keep watching. there’s 4 eps to go and it’s definitely been getting better every episode, so maybe by the time the season’s done i will have totally changed my mind. i just think that most of the artistic decisions made for this season are unnecessary, and dragging it down rather than elevating it

gabriella sending out lestat to kill the wolves hoping and expecting that they would kill him isn’t an idea that had occurred to me before but i’ve been rotating it around in my head ever since. it simultaneously being an act of fucked up care – granting him the final escape from their family – and her manipulating him into a a situation that risks his life and also robs him of the only comfort (his dog) he had outside of her. all this wrapped up in her framing killing the wolves as an act of proper manhood and thus elevating lestat into the role of a husband substitute. it’s such a messy situation that really lays the groundwork for how weird and entangled their relationship is about to get

it’s days like this (tvl drop) that i regret deactivating my tumblr (because who am i meant to talk ti about the tvl drop….) thankfully i still have this one!!
spoilers + big long yap below…..
overarching first impression from the episode is that i love it and am overjoyed. it is SO camp it is the most lestat thing ever. i didn’t realise television could GET this camp. i am loving the tonal shift, it’s super corny (but self aware enough to get away with it!), perhaps the only problem i had with season two was that it was a little too slow paced and not quite as punchy as season one- this. is definitely punchy
now, i am also sliiightly anxious. i think that we’ve been thrown straight into the deep end with the massive tonal change, and future episodes will stay camp and crazy, but maybe be a bit more linear. if they’re not, and it’s at this highest level of disjointed storytelling the whole time, i’ll be a little disappointed. but it does feel like that’s where they’re headed; the scene with louis and lestat on the phone big stupid ipad and the subsequent one felt very iwtv, as did that ending oh my GOD that episode ending was BRILLIANT i actually gasped i did not see it coming. what an evil show to mislead us into thinking he’s hornily texting his ex husband when it was actually his MOTHER. and the stutter coming back… okay actually i take it back im not worried. the show could go either way from here but this was a great episode and i think it’s going to continue in that direction. especially since we’ve not gotten any of the historical flashbacks yet
i’m really yapping now but daniel in this episode was so good!! daniel i love you my sweet cheese my evil catty bitch i can’t believe he’s even more of a bitch now i didn’t realise that was possible. lestat definitely views him as more of an annoyance than anything else rn, i wonder if that’ll change or not. also the allusions to his turning being messy… him denying that he has turning trauma and baby jenks saying ‘oh he dies bad’ I NEED TO SEE IT AUGH

They have consumed me lately. Some thoughts and things under the cut.
Mettaton in Deltarune is a much more depressed and repressed version of himself, compared to how he was in Undertale. Talking about how much of a nobody he is, and never seeing him come out of his house... However, giving Tenna to him to brighten his mood I think is genuinely doing wonders for him. Tenna I think is what's responsible for MTT truly finding his passion in the art of show business, as well as cracking his egg along the way, and gets him to start coming out of his shell more, or at least trying to.
Some miscellaneous thoughts here:
Tenna, unable to really communicate the normal way (y'know, talking), he instead opts to sentence mix whatever TV programs or movies MTT is watching. Chopping up bits and pieces of dialogue to form as coherent of sentences as he can muster. MTT is both surprised and very intrigued when his television suddenly starts stuttering and continuously rewinding the phrase 'What's your name?' from one of the characters in his show.
It's Tenna's idea for the most part to get MTT to try again with the whole 'making a body' thing. Seeing as how the NEO body in the Cyber World was a scrapped design MTT had for himself, him and Tenna start a little smaller and more reasonable, leading to the classic box design as opposed to his EX form. Now, neither of them know how to build a robot, but.. it's a better start than before.
Tenna is MTT's personal hype man. Sometimes leaving the house to go get groceries is extremely difficult, but he's always there for him to make the job feel easier. DR!MTT is effectively a hikikomori for the looks of it, so having somebody so bright and positive like Tenna in his life now is bound to have an impact on him.
This impacts Tenna too, of course: having somebody so captivated by him again is doing wonders. MTT could not appreciate Tenna's new presence in his life more. They are dependent on each other, but healthily.
MTT also is probably able to possess the television like any other object, but I wonder how it plays out with Tenna's consciousness in there, too...
