Why is it called “Carlo Café”? Is it a reference to something?
That's an interesting question with a funny and a bit dumb answer!
Actually, it's not a direct reference to anything, or at least nothing profound, it's literally a reference/reinterpretation of 'Charlie Brown'
My first language is Spanish, and in Spanish 'Charlie' could be translated as 'Carlitos', which is a diminutive of 'Carlos' (Just as 'Charlie' may or may not be a diminutive of 'Charles')
'Brown' in Spanish is 'Cafe', (referring to the color, color brown, "color cafe")
So a silly way to translate 'Charlie Brown' into Spanish is literally 'Carlitos Cafe' (In fact, in the versions for Spain I think Charlie's name was translated as 'Carlitos', in Latin America the original name is preserved)
So when I started making the first versions of Peanuts Grown-up! I showed it first with Spanish-speaking friends and it was fun to refer to Charlie Brown as 'Carlitos Cafe', that's how I referred to him with my friends, like some inside joke.
A very close friend (My bestie!) later shortened the term to simply 'Carlo Cafe' (Carlo being also a diminutive of Carlos) and it seemed even better and shorter to me! I even think it's easier to pronounce.
Then when I started posting this on my social media I was like, "Well, how can I call my version of the Grown-up Peanuts gang? 'Peanuts Grown-up' is generic and boring, there must be a lot of grown-up versions of Peanuts out there. How can I make it discoverable, recognizable, and easier to access? How about a unique name for my version that people know about?"
And then things simply connected, 'Carlo Cafe!'. It was a personal term, funny, an inside joke and a nod to the Spanish-speaking public. And of course, it would be easier to find my Peanuts content with that tag or # and so you would know that what you are going to find there is only my version!
So yes, that's why I decided to call it Carlo Cafe, if you want to see all my Peanuts content or you're just interested in that content, I have all the drawings tagged as 'Carlo Cafe' to make it easier to find! Some other things like general content of Peanuts or my opinions of the strip are tagged just as ‘Peanuts’, lol
Even if someone wants to make a drawing of the Peanuts gang with the designs from my version, feel free to use the tag Carlo Cafe!
But yes, other than that there is nothing really very interesting or deep behind the name, I just wanted to facilitate access to my content through a special name
