I'm thinking about Armand's facial expressions in that scene with Lestat and Nicki (Sam and Joe ate that scene the fuck up by the way), and how uncomfortable and distressed he looks. Both he and Gabriella warned Lestat that Nicki wouldn't make it, but the look Armand gives Gabriella when she's laughing says it all. He didn't want to be right. He didn't want to say, "I told you so". He wanted to believe Lestat that Nicki would make it, but he knew. He fucking knew!

And thinking about how that moment must--centuries later--colour his feelings about turning Daniel.

The way Armand is there, witnessing Lestat lose his human lover-cum-fledgling in such a painful, heartbreaking way, and being obviously moved by it.

The way everyone he's ever known who has made a fledgling out of someone they loved has had it go terribly wrong. The way he vows that he'll never do it.

And then he meets a mortal boy he cannot bear to live without. And he still vows that he'll never do it. And he only does it when his hand is forced, and the only other option is a world where that boy no longer exists.

And that is why "turned out of spite in a fit of rage" is such a weak motivation for Daniel's turning, when the alternative is so wonderfully devastating.
