i don't think little miss miserable is about being trans, but it's not quite not about being trans either. i think that's one of many possible interpretations, an intended intepretation, but not meant to be the main one imo.
it's about two people, one who's "mr" and goes by she/her and one who's "miss" and goes by he/him. and miss miserable is kinda sad. and you don't have to be trans to use different pronouns or terms from your gender presentation or identity, but for the sake of argument we're going to say they are.
not every story about trans characters, or trans characters being sad, has to be about them being trans. stories about being trans are good, but not every story with trans people has to be about that. to me, the song seems to be more about depression in general, and the inerpretation of mr mystical and little miss miserable as the same person makes sense imo, with mr mystical as the present/future and miss miserable as the past. and that makes sense with the song, the way that they have one happy and one sad, seems to be two halves of one person, and the whole "we will get through this," in the sort of "i've gotten through this, so i know that you can, because you're past me." so that's what the main meaning of it seems to be to me.
i do think that it being trans was an intended reading, because the whole "prescriptive binaries," which i think is talking about the "happy vs sad" binary mostly, but also with the pronoun fuckery, it also seems to be gender binaries. the gender binaries is probably meant to further the idea of other binaries, not the other way around, but it is still part of it.
there's the lines "when the 'son' makes you wish you were dead' and "the taste of the 'her' is upon your breath" both of which are kinda trans-coded! so those lines make me think that being trans was an intended reading.
but then, there are those people that have been like "i think chonny jash has something to tell us" which. if chonny jash were trans, he would just say so. not secretly hint to it in a song. i guess maybe he could be uncertain and hint to it in a song if he's not ready to come out, but i just feel like he wouldn't do that? and it's a bit iffy to speculate on someone else's gender, especially when he's already said repeatedly that he's a cis guy. if he was trans, that would be fine, but this one song isn't enough to say that he is and shouldn't make you feel like you have the right to speculate.
i feel like miss miserable and mr mystical are probably sort of meant to be him, like how a lot of his songs are sort of him but sort of not. the singers of these songs aren't quite chonny jash, but aren't not him either- they're exxagerations of his real feelings, turned into stories and songs. and the pronouns don't necessarily reflect him, similar to how he's stated that hms's pronouns are up to interpretation despite initially being intended to reflect him and his identity. you can fuck around with pronouns without being trans.
tl;dr the trans reading of lmm was probably meant to be an intended reading, but it's probably not the main one. and it also doesn't mean chonny jash is trans.
