By which I mean, asks used to be WAY more of the tumblr economy. They used to be more common to send, and receive, and see. They were integral to the collaborative, forum-like behavior of old tumblr communities, not even to speak on the HUGE number of ask-blogs that used to exist to only be interacted with in ask-form.

Anyway, the book brought up that historically there were two kings who, despite being AFAB, ruled and lived as men and were accepted as such. From what I understand, this isn’t common knowledge for trans history because both kingdoms were African, and while the people accepted the rulers as men, most of our records are from colonial powers who assumed they were both women who faked being men to gain more power.

Imagine calling Sera a “barely relevant black woman side character”. Sera. The character who allowed the exterminations in the first place, who had two important duets in season two introspecting on her decisions and furthering her character development, and multiple scenes with not only the Heaven cast but the Hazbin crew as well. But apparently since Viv made her a lesbian all of that can be ignored in order to dunk on the cringe queer demon show. They’ll accuse the Hellaverse crew of homophobia and racism while never realizing they’re doing it themselves, it’s ridiculous.

I like to think Sera can hide her wings like Lucifer (An excuse of a headcanon because I couldn't be bothered to draw her wings)

Even if stella had been the perfect wife and person to stolas over the years the fact that cheating is more controversial and makes a character more divided over than a character who did a genocide is bizaar

Plus it's easier to get the audience to like a handful of characters (Stella, Blitz, Octavia) versus EVERY SINGLE SINNER in hell. Not just our gang of sinners in the hotel, most other sinners are awful to them which causes a mix in audience sympathy. I've even see a small section of Adam stans defend the exterminations (which is literal indiscriminate genocide) because of it.

Anyways, Stolas gets more depth and screentime as a main character so of course people are gonna have stronger and more divided opinions on a complex character.

Plus people usually won't cause controversy over a character doing bad things if they are an antagonist. Sera was an antagonist getting a redemption arc so people are far more lenient for the sake of story. Stolas is a main character so people have high expectations to always root for them.

So when the main character is the one doing something irrational/cringe/wrong they get more flack. Especially when it hurts other likable characters (Blitz, Octavia) Even Charlie's going through this controversy with her failing to look out for Angel/Vaggi/Alastor/Lucifer. So yeah I think that's why Sera gets less controversy than Stolas despite being a worse person.

(Another thing, I don't think Sera is more sympathetic because she's a woman. Sera reminds me of the diamonds from SU who have been in controversy for being redeemable dictators that order genocides on planets to spread their empire. And they were women too! Heck we can look at Charlie if you want a controversial hellaverse character that's a woman. If anything I think people would love her more if she was a man. Sera's tolerable enough to most of the fandom cuz she plays her role without getting too complex in her writing, mostly due to the time constraints of Hazbin's eight episodes per season.)

What DOES a good apology for antiblackness look like, to you?

Not a shitty twitter apology that dodges accountability. Not a genuine apology made to white fans to soothe their embarrassment and egos and maintain white solidarity.

What does an ACTUAL apology for antiblackness consist of, to you?

What actions do you need to see from people who claim to be better, to deserve your support despite a history of being unsafe?

Why do you think nonblack people feel they're entitled to grace, and what would actually EARN them your grace? What makes you not want to offer it at all?

They need to actually call the racist behavior racist and explain why WITHOUT defending themselves. No, "I was younger" "I didn't know at the time" "I was copying someone else" It's still wrong that you did it no matter the circumstances. A portion of their fans will already defend them they don't need to explain themselves. Don't even let fellow influencers defend them.

Also I need long term changed behavior. Not just reblogging some black gofundmes after posting an apology. I need them to actually stop saying/doing whatever people said was racist. Or start doing/portraying whatever fans are asking them to do. For example: If they don't have many black oc's, and they're getting canceled for it, they need to start designing/redesigning some black characters putting in effort to make it overt and non-stereotypical. If they just apologized but don't start doing the thing people are asking for, then they didn't take it seriously. Non-action is a form of racism too.

And yes, timing does play a role. Not because it doesn't matter anymore, but because it shows how they've changed. If the VERY LAST time they did some anti black shit was approx 15 years ago, AND they've been CONSISTENTLY pro black since, I'm willing to accept that they've changed. But if the shit was last week, then imma need a year or two to see if they've actually gotten it together. If they don't at least become CONSISTENTLY pro black ever since then, I won't forgive them.
