Anon if I could give you a bouquet of flowers right now I would, you have perfectly described my exact thoughts on the root of a lot of Hellaverse criticism and hate. Decentering Christianity from our culture is borderline impossible because people in progressive movements don’t want to do the work to deconstruct their Christian upbringing because it’s makes them uncomfortable, like you said. This has far more important effects irl when it comes to politics but an unintended consequence of this mindset is any piece of media that doesn’t conform to Christian principles is treated with far more scrutiny than media that is more in line with Christian values.

It’s how you get people unironically saying that the exterminations were right because Hell is full of evil people, or that Lucifer is a bad character because he’s a sensitive guy and not a bearded buff dictator, or that Adam is portrayed wrong because he’s not accurate to his biblical counterpart, or that Charlie should just start killing people, etc etc etc. I could go on for literal hours.

How dare you write a ship fic based on your own interpretation of the character dynamics in the show, what a complete lack of empathy on your part!! And yeah the whitewashing (morally, not literally, but the charlastor cult do that as well lol) of Alastor is so strange to me?? He’s a dick to her in the show and only helped her out in the first place because Rosie forced him to. I personally believe he does have a bit of affection for the Hazbin gang because I think a redemption arc is in store for him, but it’s not an excuse for how he manipulates and insults Charlie in the show canon.

These people will hallucinate an entirely separate show where Alastor is a secret good guy constantly supporting Charlie and then turn around and harass people who actually care about canon. It’s behavior that’s beyond delusional and will only get worse during Alastor’s villain arc in season 3.

As a Verosika fan I was lowkey annoyed that they baited she was going to show up in the short but that was supplanted by an even bigger annoyance at all the people suddenly claiming to be Verosika fans and using that to attack the Helluva crew.

Like, Verosika is technically popular in the fact that her fanart gets clicks because she’s a conventionally attractive sex demon, but the amount of actual fans of her character outside of aesthetics could fit onto a small school bus, and I’m one of the passengers. I was getting very frustrated seeing the hundreds of fans up in arms about the lack of Verosika content when they have never participated in writing fanfics of her, making meta analyses, edits, literally anything. Just invoking her name so they could get their daily hit of harassment.

So I decided to spend an hour combing through the merch tab on the Hazbin wiki to see if those claims are supported. My criteria for what counted as “charlastor” merch was simple: Charlie and Alastor needed to be the only characters featured on the merch, or if they were in a group they had to be mutually acknowledging each other.

With that, here are the results I gathered:

Five shirts, two prints, two bags, one enamel pin, and one pair of pajama pants. This is all the merch that charlastor have after 2019, one of which involves Charlie looking absolutely terrified of Alastor so idk if that should even count as charlastor merch unless you like seeing Charlie scared and uncomfortable.

Also, fun fact: the only piece of merch here that came out after the show is the bottom right print that Amir commissioned for autographs at cons. Everything else came out before the pilot when Spindlehorse needed every penny it could get from fans in order to actually make the show happen. It’s no wonder they might have tried to appeal to all demographics, even entitled het shippers.

Now, onto chaggie! The same criteria applies to them, let’s see how big the discrepancy is.

This collage does not include repeated designs on different pieces of clothing (i.e. one graphic on a shirt, sweater, tank top, etc) and yet it still far exceeds the amount of charlastor merch that was produced. Plus all of them involve Charlie and Vaggi looking lovingly at each other, something charlastor doesn’t have lol.

No no you don’t understand anon, when Alastor supposedly hates men he’s doing it in the Correct Way because he’s a man, and men can’t do anything wrong. But a woman, especially a LESBIAN, hating a man?? We can’t have that, we all know lesbians are just aggressive confused hetero women who need to get with the right man in order to stop all this silly man hating nonsense smh.

I guess Viv supports abuse or whatever because she wants her merch to be semi-canon accurate. I for one love the Angel angst we’re getting and can’t wait to see how it’s elaborated on in season three.

I saw those complaints about Adam and honestly I don’t see the big deal. They put him in the ally outfit not to show he’s an ally but to show he’s straight. As far as I’m aware there’s no straight pride flag that wasn’t made by a homophobe so they went with the second best thing. He’s still canonically homophobic due to sexualizing lesbian relationships, the show takes precedence over merch lmao.

I’m sorry, if you think that this counts as curvy your standards are in the fucking dirt. She’s built like me and I can guarantee you the word “curvy” has never once been used to describe me. She’s not even curvy by Hellaverse standards if you compare her to characters like Vaggi, Emily, or Verosika.

like one of them literally tried to pry into not one but TWO chaggie shipper’s IRL relationships insinuating that they were toxic and codependent because they said they related to Chaggie 😬😬. naturally the shipdom never held them accountable for it because “the only bad ch@rlastor shippers are the ones we (conveniently) already kicked out of the shipdom”, and if any chaggie shippers call out that behaviour then it’s “stalking”
