Reblogging this again bc people in the notes are asking a lot of "Am I included? Am I disabled if I have x?" and I just wanted to add the flag here to show people who the pride month is for.

This is the new flag, the old one was more vivid and in a z shape, but it's been made more neutral to be inclusive of people with seizures or sensory issues.

Each stripe represents a different aspect of disability:

Red: Physical disabilities

Yellow: Cognitive & intellectual disabilities

White: (And this is the key one I think) Invisible AND undiagnosed disabilities

Blue: Mental illnesses

Green: Sensory disabilities

If you're autistic or have ADHD? this is your pride month. If you have a mental illness, it's your pride month. If you're hard of hearing, this is your pride month. If you have an autoimmune disorder, this is your pride month. If you are not diagnosed with anything but you know something is up with you: THIS IS STILL YOUR PRIDE MONTH.

on matariki a few years ago I was swimming in the basin of a waterfall (in my undies, in the middle of winter of course) and a longfin eel on the smaller side swam up to me. I held out my hand just to see what she would do (not the smartest idea considering those teeth) and she just. weaved under my hand like a slippery cat. fully brushing up against my hand. I even started petting her and she didn't pull away or leave. sometimes I think about how many people would change their minds about fish if they had experienced that instead of me. fish are intelligent, social, emotional creatures that most people don't even attempt to understand. thanks for sharing, this made me smile so big. eels are the best! this is an absolute unit of a tuna that hangs out under a bridge in Ōtari wilsons bush (scale is hard to judge here, but trust me they're BIG)

when i was in uni there was a pond on campus that used to house (and hopefully still does) a couple of gorgeous eels. They'd hang out near the path, and somehow project pus- in-boots eyes up at people. They were well accustomed to students bearing gifts, one would start doing graceful twirls and barrel rolls as soon as the food came out. i have no idea if it figured out how to do that itself to charm people and maximize profits, or if some student had decided to do a practical study in eel training, but it absolutely worked as intended. The other eel didn't join in, but got to share in the reward which tbh was very smart of them.
