true crime youtuber about to tell you what color panties the victim had on: sorry if i pronounce the name wrong guys xD
content creators love to do this type of shit as if they don't:
know in advance that they'll be making a video featuring foreign names
have to write out a whole script containing those foreign names that are relevant to the video's topic (the perfect and natural time to add foreign name pronunciation guides into that part of the script)
have to sit down and read out said script via recordings — i.e. not in a livestream — giving them all of the time in the world to look up any necessary name/word pronunciation guides in advance before recording a segment (and if they fuck up the name during a shot, they can just redo that part of the take, since again, it's not being streamed live)
and then, even if it is being streamed live... they still know in advance that they'll be doing that stream, most likely with a script. they could still practice saying the foreign names and establish pronunciation guides before then, instead of getting to that name and going either "oh this name is Hard haha i can't say it right," or just assigning a bland english nickname to that person for their own convenience.
it's so obnoxious to see them try to put so much effort into everything about their videos and streams, minus saying the names of foreigners right.
boring take from real 21st century idiots: bdsm is bad because it's basically torture
interesting take from a fictional 14th century monk: torture is bad because it's basically sex
Shoutout to the nun who had other nuns tie her up and pour hot wax on her as she confessed her sins
I'm sure that's true, but something tells me googling "nun tied up by other nuns" "hot wax" "confessing sins" will likely get what you might call rather un-academic results
I'm gonna get so much mileage out of this one
We were doing an activity where the kids got to make a playbill for a musical about themselves and all the other kids were like “character list: mommy, daddy, me, my brother, my best friend” “scenes: I get a puppy, first day of school, my baby sister is born”
But one little girl was like “oh, it’s a musical about ME you say” and the character list was all the other girls in the class cast as her body parts, and a story about how her body works.
“Kaylee is nice so she will be the heart. Lily is my kidneys. Sapphire is the lungs.”
She surreptitiously showed me that the girl who kept taking the crayons she was using was cast specifically as “left buttcheek” and I had to pretend like that wasn’t the funniest thing I’d ever seen.

Who wants to be narrative foils together
With tongue
one of my favorite interactions at Pride this past weekend might have been the very sweet woman who walked up to our tent as we were setting up and asked "hey, um, what is this?"
and i started giving her the spiel for our organization and she was very nice and let me do the whole thing and was like "great! but what is" (gestures to the whole Pride festival) "all of this?"
turns out she'd just been reading in her local coffee shop on the main street with no idea that Pride was happening that day and was feeling very confused when she walked outside and was suddenly surrounded by booths in various states of setting up rainbows
confused woman clutching her coffee:

I like the expression new-fangled. I don't know what it means for something to be fangled, but I sure as hell know it was recent
It’s from the Old English word feng, which can mean “to take”, or also “to grasp, hold, or embrace”. So something that’s newfangled is something that was taken up recently.
The reason it’s using this pretty archaic root is that it’s an older word than a lot of people think. Here it is in the Canterbury Tales.
Minutes after posting: "Why did I write archaic when I could have gone with old-fangled?"

i'm sorry i didn't respond to your DM for 23 days. the number on the notification icon got really big and i began having irrational anxious thoughts such as "what if people are in there trying to contact me"
I do think the ability to emoji-react is a net win for human communication. not only does it give you an outlet for 'I see and acknowledge this but don't have a verbal response' but it also adds a pleasing alethiometer element to things
my coworker announces that he's off to the dentist. someone reacts with a tooth emoji. is this a statement of dentist solidarity? a wish for my coworker to return with more (or fewer?) teeth than he set out with? simple word association? who can say
ok but this unironically works. talk about how the working class is exploited and you can basically sell full-on marxism to your average republican if you do it right. all you have to do is avoid the words "Marx," "capitalism," "socialism," "communism," "means of production," etc - just use synonyms. say "big business" or "corporate shareholder interests" instead of "capitalists." say "a government that prioritizes the needs of the working people" instead of "socialism." it WORKS. I've DONE it. the hardest sell are usually things like social and racial equity, welfare, things like that, because people have been primed with the racist/classist idea that those things are somehow unfair - but you can get your foot in the door to getting them to buy into those too if you start with class issues. read up on your theory, make sure you REALLY understand your own ideology, because that will enable you to reword it and successfully sell it.
In my experience, you can often help sell 'welfare' stuff by appealing to self-interest with a touch of Aren't We Great.
Disability benefits: "I mean, sure, there are probably some sad sacks who are gaming the system, there always are, but hell, with the amount of taxes we pay, the government can afford a few freeloaders, right? I'd rather pay for a couple people who don't really need it than not have the system at all for if I need it, or my kids do, or whatever. I mean shit happens. What if some asshole drunk driver puts me in the hospital and it takes me a year to get back on my feet? Or Heaven forbid something permanent happens. I'll sure be glad that I can get disability then, won't I?"
UBI: "I dunno, the kind of guy who'll just sit on the couch playing Call of Duty all day if he doesn't have to work, I kinda don't want him on my job site anyway. That type is just taking up a place that you could fill with someone who'll actually get the job done, you know? You end up short-handed even though you technically have enough people because everyone else has to pick up his slack. And it'd mean that if your boss is a dick you can tell him to shove it and not worry your kids are gonna go hungry while you find a better place. We can sure as hell afford it."
Racial equity: "I've got a lot more in common with a Black guy who's just trying to get the job done than I do with some rich white asshole who thinks the sun shines out of his ass because of how much money mommy and daddy have."
bringing this to tumblr because a realer thing has literally never been said

Crazy how many people want characters in fiction to speak and act like they’ve had 20 hours of intensive therapy. Could NOT be me I want these bitches fucked up insane
my friend briar and i lovingly call this one ‘therapy speak joker’ and it almost caused her to drop biological samples one time
i think the joker should start talking like this for real. no other character should do this only the joker. i want batman to have to deal with this
Would you be comfortable with me sharing the story of how I got these scars
That would have been an incredible episode of Batman: The Animated Series, though. Joker gets out of Arkham, having convinced the psychs he's rehabilitated by speaking in fluent Therapy. Bats spends the entire episode losing his mind, because he KNOWS it's an act because NO ONE TALKS LIKE THAT and Joker reacts with total calm and understanding when he finds Batman in his pantry at 2AM. "You're violating a boundary right now, but I realize this behavior is caused by a history of trauma. Can we talk about how your inability to trust negatively affects those around you?" Meanwhile steam is just coming out of Batman's ears
Are you in the right headspace to receive information on you potentially being overserious?
